I am a long time lurker here on the forums but have never actually had a reason to post. My wedding is on May 10th, 2014. That’s right, 3 months away. I got a call this morning from the bridal shop where my dress was being kept saying they had a fire.
The building is intact and the fire was mostly electrical, but between water and smoke damage they said the dresses that they were keeping were all destroyed. We are going to be reimbursed for our dresses once the insurance is worked out, but I am devastated. I had a Maggie Sottero gown that I fell in love with and just knew was “the one”. It gave me that moment that every bride wants to have.
Unfortunatly, there is no time to order another dress from Maggie Sottero and have it in time…I have called every bridal shop with-in three hours of me and received the same answer…it just isn’t possible with the time limit.
I’m not asking for any hand-outs or anything, I’m just at a lose of what to do. Financially I was already way over my dress budget but we compromised so I could have the dress of my dreams…although we are getting that back it puts us in a tight spot with purchasing another dress so soon to the wedding. It could take months for the insurance money to come in and to get a refund, and we just don’t have the time to wait around.
What I am asking is, what are my options when it comes to ordering a dress this close to my wedding on a limited budget? Bees, I am looking for any advice because right now I am still in shock and just devastated by this.

Call Maggie Sorrento’s number and talk to them directly. There may be something they can do to help. Have a link ready to a story or copy of an email along with receipts ready at hand to email them if necessary.
Sorry this happened, I can’t even imagine how upsetting this is.

@MrsEmployed: I am so so so so SOOOOO sorry to hear this. I can’t imagine how you must be feeling. If the building wasn’t destroyed are they SURE it was ruined, can it not be cleaned somewhere if it was just smoke and water? I’d be asking questions like that because I’d be wanting my dress that I loved. The only thing I can think is you’re going to have to go to dress shops and find something in stock that you like, or BEG AND BEG AND BEG and plead until someone tells you they can make it happen for you with the dress you want.

What Maggie Sottero dress was it? If you’re open to a preowned dress or sample, maybe you can find the same or a similar one.
ETA: I bought my Maggie Sottero as a sample and it’s great condition!

@MrsEmployed: I second the other PPs about calling them direct and also looking for pre owned or sample sizes! I am so so so sorry this happened to you! Also there are some stores that sell just samples…you can walk out of the store with your dress the day you buy it

@MrsEmployed: omg that is devastating! Is the dress shop compensating you at all for your loss? Which dress was it, the bees can help you look at pre-owned dresses perhaps?

OP I am so so sorry. Yes, what dress/size? I can help you look for one online if you’d like. I bought my Sottero and Midgley preowned online and it’s like new and in perfect condition. Don’t give up hope!

I was able to contact Hayley Paige designer herself on linkedin. You could try that ! Or preowned as other bees suggested !

I got my brand new Maggie Sottero sample on preownedweddingdress.com, put in her name and the name of the dress in the search bar, there may be results

Unfortunatly I can say for sure that it is ruined…I have been in a fire before and the smoke seeps into fabric and never comes out even with professional cleaning and the fabric is mosy likely discolored.
I would be open to a pre-owned dress if I could find it. The bridal shop I ordered from was almost two hours from me, and the only one in the area that carried this dress at the time. I didn’t want to order it without trying it on, and the other shops charged me extra to special order a dress and needed it to be payed for up front.
The name of the dress was “Eden” and it was perfect. I wanted a simple all lace mermiad dress for our vintage vinyard wedding and this dress fit it to a tee. The reason I was so over budget was that I had custom beading added to give it some “bling” instead of being what everyone said was “plain”. To be honest, I loved it with the custom beading but the plain dress was on the that made be fall in love it at first.
I asked the same question about if Maggie Sottero could do anything if I called them directly and was told they had already called to find out. They were told that there just wasn’t enough time to do anything and I would need to repay for the dress before they could start to make it. We are having a wedding with 350 people and my original dress budget was suppose to be 1500 but I ended up more than doubling that with the custom work, alterations, and veil. At this point, my budget would have to be around $300-$500 and I just have no idea where to start with a budget that small compared to what I spent.
Honestly, I fee horrible for brides that were getting married before me…I am lost with three months left, some of them only had a week to find a new dress…
Here is the picture from their website, I am having trouble uploading a picture off of my phone of me in it, but will do so when my phone want’s to work for once…

@MrsEmployed: oh sweetie I’m so sorry – what size did you have?
I am a street size 6/8 depending on brand and roughly 5’6. The dress shop will be compensating everyone when the insurance is all settled, but that could take months.
Thanksfully, I do have the veil at home with me, but the dress was being kept at the shop due to a nosy fiance and a pug that sheds way to much…If I was sure I would get the money in time I would drive to another state if need be and walk out with a sample of that dress. My Fiance and I are talking as I type this and crunching the wedding budget and he prefers that I stay with-in the $300-500 range and get a used dress, but if I can go up to $700 if I absolutly have to…I am just so devasted right now =(

Firstly, sorry about that really bad news. That sucks!!
I dont know if its an option for you or not. But have a look at no name bridal gowns online. A cousin of mine had a dress disaster 6 weeks before her wedding and ordered off an online place (made in China) it arrived 4 weeks later. It was beautifully made and the fabric was good, and was only $350(Australian)
Otherwise, you could try second hand dresses? Once again, not sure if that is an option or you or not. But given the time issue and you may just find ‘your’ dress:)

@MrsEmployed: So sorry you have to deal with this added stress. I would scour the pre-owned boards, in Toronto we have The Brides Project where they sell samples and pre-owned dresses crazy cheap for charity.
It’s sample sale season – I’m sure you can find a great dress.

@MrsEmployed: I found a couple on preownedweddingdresses.com, but based on your last update, they may not be the right size. Here are the links just in case:
