Another thread about ‘pictures not doing a dress justice’ got me thinking about the how different a dress looks in the dress shop pictures with bad lighting vs. in professional pictures on the wedding day. I thought it would be fun to post pictures that you took in the dress shop in the sample gown and then pictures of the dress taken by a professional photographer. Let’s see if we can prove or disprove that theory. 🙂
Here are two of mine in the shop- first one is in the sample gown, second is in my gown before alterations. I also included one inside and one outside on wedding day.

In my pictures I think that the sample looks kind of flat in the pictures. It definitely wasn’t as poofy as my dress- probably from being in a trunk show and getting tried on a lot. The professional cameras definitely seemed to pick up the details much better. I feel like you can’t even tell that the detailing on the dress is rhinestones in the dress shop pics- it just looks like embroidery.

You and that dress couldn’t look bad in any lighting! Gorgeous.
Here are a couple. One’s from the first time I tried it on, a final fitting, and the wedding day.

This is a great idea for a thread, I tell brides all the time not to judge to harshly based on the pictures they take in sample size dresses with a camera phone LOL!

I prefer the professional pics

Great thread idea. The dress never looks as great in pics taken in the store, and thats why people shouldnt freak out if their FI doesnt like the dress based on that picture.

Faye and Theresa…your dresses could not be more different, but they are both AMAZING. Although the pro pics are obviously better, the dress shop pics aren’t bad either 😉 Gorgeous!!

@faye0314: Have to say you are waaaaaaaaay too pretty and rock that dress no matter where the picture was taken!

@Theresa90405: You look fantastic in all your pictures! Your dress is so cute! I thought about going with a tea length, because they are so retro and fun. Gotta say, just like the other dress the OP posted, you rock your dress no matter where the picture was taken!

Both my dresses looked better in the shop when they were two feet too long and clipped in the back to fit my body exactly. My alterations weren’t all that great I guess? So I could disprove the theory for myself but it would depress me to post the pictures now and think “why couldn’t it look better on my wedding” 🙁

@meliss: I think you need to post pics so we can disprove that you think you didn’t look better on your wedding day!

Okay… I’ll post mine. I didn’t have any taken at the shop, but I didn’t need any alterations other than having it shortened in the front.
Before the wedding at home…
Professional pictures taken on the wedding day…
