I'm going dress shopping for the first time tomorrow with my Mom, my sister ( a bridesmaid) and my 2 grandmas. Any advice? I'm soooo excited! I'm looking for something simple with a few details.

    A few things:

    1. Don't be overwhelmed by comments from a lot of people.  I found it was best to go by myself or with just one person.  Listen to yourself more than what other people say!

    2.  Wear good underwear because people will probably be seeing it!

    3.  Try on some dresses that you don't think you would like or aren't in your pre-set image of what you want - you might be surprised at what looks good on you!

    4.  If you have a budget, try to stick relatively close to it by not trying on dresses too far out of your budget!

    5.  Take pics if you can.  A lot of places might not let you though.

    Good luck and have fun!

Definitely stretch from your ideal a bit! Everyone I know ended up with a dress that was not what they were looking for!

Dresses look very different on the models than they do on real people - they are pinned and placed and airbrushed!

Good luck and have a TON of FUN!!!!!

I'd say try on at least one dress in each type of silhouette (strapless, with straps, trumpet/mermaid, a-line, poufy, not poufy etc etc) - you may think you know what will work best but a lot of people are surprised by what they end up with.

Your first trip is a great time to dabble in all the options and figure out the general direction you want to go.  Then on subsequent trips you can try on a bunch of options that are variations on that theme to pick "the one."
