So despite the fact that I have yet to set a date or find a venue (wheee!), I have already delved into the wonderful of dress shopping. Which, btw, is like my favorite thing to do, um, ever!! Sooo much fun. So far, I have identified two Anjolique dresses that I love and managed to see and touch them at what is thus far the most amazing bridal store in downtown Brooklyn. Unfortunately I these dresses were sent in for a trunk show, and they were both a size 4 or 6 (seriously people???), and naturally, I wasn't able to fit more than my right elbow in them. The store tried to contact the designer to see of they could get loaner dresses closer to my size for me try on, but to no avail. And I can't seem to track down a bridal store/boutique in the area that carries either style :( :( :( I've seen them both for sale online, but I definitely don't want to buy them without trying them on somehwere first. Is it just me, or have other brides experienced a general lack of responsiveness or unwillingness of people who work at bridal boutiques in the NYC area to help you find a specific dress/style you are looking for? So far I've gotten no response at all or a "Oh just come in and we'll find something for you". Ugh.

So I am kind of back to square one with my search. But I am wondering if anyone else has found a style of dress they loved, but was unable to actually try it on and unable to find it in or close to your size at another store? I really don't want to have to go to Kleinfeld's!!

Unfortunately I don't have great advice but I am wearing an Anjolique dress, which I got at an amazing Brooklyn boutique, so I wanted to comment on your post! I LOVE my dress, and am wondering what styles you looked at. Mine hasn't come in yet, but is due in June or so. Did you, by any chance, go to The White Gown (that's where mine is from)? If you haven't tried Lotus Bridal, also in Brooklyn, but a bit farther out, they have TONS of beautiful samples in all different sizes (and many for under $1,000) and the girls there are just lovely. I may go there if you're in the area, or at least call and ask if they have what you're looking for. They are so very helpful. Good luck!

I was totally referring to the White Gown!! Did you get your dress there? BEST PLACE EVER! I can't rave enough about them - the ladies there are sooo nice and helpful and I just felt so comfortable there! But sadly they neither carry normally the two Anjoliques I like (2116 and 2125) nor a couple of Ella Bridal dresses that I like (same deal with Anjolique - they carry the designer, but not the styles I want) :( Two strikes!

Thanks for the Lotus Bridal suggestion. Is it near a subway do you know?

Just a suggestion, but I did find it helpful to know the venue before I picked the dress. Of course you could always pick the venue based on what you picked for the dress :) Good luck!

Why don't you want to go to Kleinfeld?  I had an awesome experience there, my consultant was so patient and helpful and kind, absolutely the best.  And I know they stock a decent range of sizes in many dresses compared to the average bridal salon, so unless you're working with an under $1.5k budget...why not?

    Hi There!

Totally got my dress at The White Gown, they were sooo sooo sweet. I think you should defintely try Lotus Bridal, it's on Avenue U in Brooklyn. Grab the "B" or "Q" train and get off at Avenue U walk towards Ocean Avenue and you'll see it. It's probably one or 2 blocks away from the train station. :) Hope it works out!
