I’m a size 16, and most of the shops I went to had a few in my size to try on. Davids Bridal had the most plus sized dresses for me to try, and the other shops had a handful in each.

Bigger chain store like David’s Bridal usually have larger sizes for you to try on, but many smaller bridal boutiques do not have a huge selection of plus size dresses to try on. Sometimes you have to squeeze into a dress to get an idea of how one will look in your size. It can be difficult, but what I found most helpful was calling the boutique/shop ahead of time and asking them what their “plus sized” selection was like. It saved face, and also made sure ou didn’t waste time looking at a store that didn’t supply dresses your size.

i wish you the best of luck in your dress hunt!

I went to David’s Bridal first because I knew they’d have samples in my size or close to it so it was a very painless experience. I totally know how you feel. I hope your day turns out great!!

Like PP’s said, Davids Bridal will have tons for you to try. Are there any plus size bridal shops in your area?

I got my dress at a non plus size shop and they only had a couple in my size. But they should have plenty of 14’s and 16’s to give you an idea.

@marty57:  go to an Alfred Angelo Signature store. There’s one in CT. You WILL have a very good experience. Please trust me on this one. A TON of dresses in plus sizes, you will not feel like your being limited due to your size.

@marty57 go to kleinfelds. They have the most plus size dresses. I know I literally called everywhere in the Nyc area to see who had the most. They have a ton of dresses that you can try on without feeling like you need to squeeze into something. There is also a plus size bridal store in NJ that just opened I think it is called the curvy bride, or curvy bridal. Most places, bridal reflections, brides nouveau, white gown, had less than 5!

I would recommend going to DB to try on something’s before hand just to get an idea of what you think before you go to kleinfelds.

@marty57:  i was terrified of dress shopping – when i went i was a UK 22/24 and i had heard horror stories of bridal shops only stocking size 12s. i made sure that i booked into a plus size store… i didnt want to have to part with ALOT of money based on what a teeny sized dress looked like once i had poured my ass into it!!! 🙂

the store i went to ONLY stocked sizes 18 – 54. i tried on over 20 dresses – and found the dress of my dreams!!

my advise – call ahead to make sure they stock plus sizes. have fun – you will have an amazing time. and dont forget to post a pic on here when you have found ‘the one’!!

I’m also size 18 and was dreading shopping for a gown.  My best experience was with David’s Bridal.  They had a good selection of gowns that fit and they also have you wear a long line bra before trying on dresses.   It made a huge difference in how I looked in the dresses.   I ulimately purchased my dress at a salon, and am very nervous about how it will look when I have my first fitting this week.

I’m a size 18 and unfortunately, I had a few horrible experiences. I really had no luck being stuffed into the tiny fitting rooms at Davids Bridal but am happy to hear not everyone had those experiences.

Determined not to hate dress shopping or worse, leave feeling horrible about myself as a bride, I set out to find and go to plus size bridal boutiques.  I found two around Washington, packed my bags and dragged my two closest friends to make a weekend out of it. (we live in Toronto, Canada)  I found my dress at the very first store we went, had an amazing experience and felt gorgeous.  It was definitely worth the time and money spent going there as they had so many dresses in all sizes, styles and makes.  I found my gown at Curvygirls Bridal in VA 🙂

Good luck!  You’ll find the dress of your dreams too! 🙂
