Don’t go by yourself! At least in my experience, it’s far too overwhelming! Definitely bring your mom, and maybe even a friend along too. You’ll want support and advice. Good luck and have fun!

Also, welcome to WB!

i think taking one or two people (mom, bridesmaids, etc.) can be very helpful.  but if you take a whole gaggle of girls, it can get overwhelming as there may be dissenting opinions which could make you feel both crazy and confused!  one or two is a perfect number though.

good luck dress shopping!  it’s so much fun!

congratulations and welcome to the hive! each person is different when it comes to dress shopping–if you trust your mom’s opinion and feel like she would be a good shopping companion, then definitely bring her along.  if you generally like to do these things on your own, then go by yourself. whatever works for you! i guess my one piece of advice is that whatever you do, don’t feel pressured into making a decision–if you think you find the dress, feel free to sleep on it so you can be sure. have fun! i *loved* dress shopping!

You know, I have the same questions.  I kind of want to check things out myself, and maybe try on a few more daring dresses before I get everyone’s effing opinion.  I would like to know what I really like without the chatter.  You know?

Kingcake, that’s funny because I actually had to BEG my mom and MOH to give me feedback. They said they didn’t want to “sway” me, and I said, “Well then why are you here?” “:)

I’ve been shopping with my mom, my friends, and alone and I’ve had the most luck on my own.

I had great luck on my own. But it really doesnt matter. You can go on your own and then bring your family back when you find something you like,

Welcome to WB!  I think it totally depends on what you want.  I took my mom, grandma, and a friend with me the first time around.  I wanted people’s opinions and I wanted the company.

I think it’s definately a matter of personal preference. My plan initially was to go by myself the first time and then bring someone with me if I had trouble deciding.  I ended up going alone both times and b/w myself and the consultant, we narrowed down my choices and made the decision based on what looked best on me.  I personally didn’t want opinions boggling/clouding my mind.  I am very short so I definately wanted an expert to tell me what silhouette looked the most flattering on me and it worked out great 🙂  If I was young (not that I’m old-43) and it was my first marriage, I would probably bring family/friends with me.
