@jwdesiree:  I spent $1200 and was willing to go more… looking back I wish I hadn’t.  There’s a very similar dress to mine at DB for $700 or I coulda gotten mine used for a similar price.

But meh, I don’t lose any sleep over it!  What’s done is done.

I wanted to stay under $1000, but fell in love with a dress that was $1250.  Decided I wanted to lose a few pounds before ordering so that the I was already the right size and during that time a different designer came out with an almost identical dress that I ended up loving even more and was half the price.  I would have spent the money though on the first dress though because I loved it.  Try it on, see you how you feel and if you don’t find anything else do it!

I had a $2K budget and then I spent $5K. If I feel bad I just remember that at least I didn’t fall in love with the $10K Marchesa. lol. It’s just money but photos of you in the dress of your dreams is forever.

I went over my budget by about $500  and I’ve never regretted it. Nothing else compared to my dress and I knew I would regret not getting it.

same as you.. i wanted to sapent tops $1000.. but upon dress shopping i couldnt help but fall in love with a dress that cost $2000 after tax.. and then alterations costtt!! i mean i can afford it too but wasnt what i had imagining me spending on.. in the end i decided to purchase the dress of my dreams so i wont have a dress regret everrr and have those “what if” haunting thoughts for the rest of my life… plus i was able to get discounts jejejeje

i would say go try it on.. you may or may not like it on you.. just make sure you have enough time to try on other dresses as well and take the pics home and make a decision calmly at home and within that trunk show deal..

Good advice as I have been fretting over similar issues; wearing a dress for 2 hours (we are eloping) and it costing over $1000 seems crazy at times- my car was $1200!  BUT I want to look the best I can and I plan on re-selling it online after I wear it to re-coup some of the costs.

I have also been heavily perusing preowned desginer wedding dresses online w/ a few possibilities that if nothing else might be worth the few hundred bucks even if it’s only a 80% chance I will wear it on “the big day.”

@jwdesiree:  I had an unusual situation– I saved for years and had money for almost any dress. I was supposed to go to Klienfelds or in Georgetown, but my grandma was sick so we went in Scranton. I told them I could afford anything, but I the consultant I wasn’t comfortable over $2500, but could move if I found the one. I tried on the dresses I loved online and the one I ended up getting was less than 1/3 of my comfortable budget (with alterations). I say, you only get to do this once. If it is the dress and you love it, get it.

My dad of all people gave me some good advice on this topic.  Yes, you only wear the dress for a few hours but the pictures of you in that dress will survive longer than you so you better like how you look In the dress. Doesn’t mean you can’t find a replica that’s you love but you can decide if its worth the cost
