I have to say I didn't like my experience at L'elite at all - the woman who was assigned to me was sweet and helpful, but the managers there (or the older women who greeted us/hovered around us the whole time) were cold, rude and disinterested. It's a nice space and they have beautiful dresses, but blechhh.
The service at Priscilla of Boston on Boylston St. was much, much better. I didn't end up buying from there but I almost did just because they made me feel comfortable and beautiful!
Good luck!
I strongly suggest Country Weddings in Hingham -- they are a smaller boutique so I would give them a call and make sure they have samples in your size -- but as long as they do - they were SO AMAZING to work with. I have directed two other brides there and they both had a fabulous experience as well. All three of us also got our bridesmaids dresses there.
VOWS in Watertown is also a great place to look - they sell samples sight-on-seen. But they also have a line of dresses that are their own that they can get in any size.
Good luck!
I second the suggestion for Country Weddings - that was the very first place I went dress shopping and had a great experience. I ended up getting my dress at Allegria which was wonderful - Julie helped me and she could not have been more accomodating! I've been to Camilla's in Arlington a few times with friends and they are very nice there (they let you take photos as well). I also went to La Reine in Waltham - they had a huge selection and nice big private dressing rooms :)
I would skip L' Elite... it was really small and although shopping on Newbury St is fun, I wouldnt make the special trip.
Have fun!!!
Thanks for all of your suggestions! I made an appointment to go to Priscilla's and then thought to ask them about sample sizes. They have one sample "plus size" if you will, so obviously that would not be worth the time, and come on? 1 dress to try on? I guess I will have to make some phone calls, b/c my biggest worry if I go to these other stores is that they will only have a few dresses to try on. I'm really looking forward to Kleinfeld's b/c I've heard that they have a nice selection for plus-sizes! So if those of you who suggested La Reine and Allegria know about sizes, please chime in. :) Thanks!!
Try Vows in Watertown/Newton or the Bridal Secret in Quincy. They have off the rack dresses in a variety of sizes (and budgets).
I was pretty happy with the service I received at Gianna's in Stoneham, but I don't recall what dress sizes they may have had for samples.
That said, I LOVE and will be buying my dress from Precious Memories in Malden, and I know that they DO have larger sized dresses to try on!
Good luck!
Also try LA Sposa in Newton/Watertown line. I stumbled upon them after my appointment at Vows, before they moved to their new location. The owner is (Margarita) and GRUMPY when it comes to alterations, but the other women there are great. I got my dress there, with plenty to try on... give a call first though regarding sizes.
Also, Sposa Atelier (sp?) in Amesbury and Frenchs in Beverly, and Marry and Tux in Nashua NH all were great.
You should also try out Madeleine's Daughter in NH, My girlfriend and I went to their sample sale back in November and we both found our dresses. The girls there were super nice, and I know they stock "plus size" my BFF is along the same street size as you and she tried on several gowns. Oh and one plus is that you don't pay taxes in NH.

Hi everyone. I live in Boston but recently posted a question about dress shopping in NYC. I'm heading to Kleinfeld's in January, but will do some shopping in this area as well first. I'm heading to David's Bridal this weekend to get a sense of what looks good on me, and to look for BM dresses as well... And I know that I'm definitely going to check out Priscilla's too. I'm just wondering if others have had experiences with La Reine, La Sposa, Allegria Bridal in Belmont, Confetti, Lace Bridal, and/or L'Elite. I should also mention that I am a plus-size, though I hate that term! I am a street 16/18 so want to go to places that of course have sample sizes for me to try on and where my self-esteem isn't totally shattered! :) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
