Ok my fellow bees, my wedding is on January 20, 2013, and I’m going dress shopping for the first time tomorrow. I am excited but really nervous, I’m not happy with my current weight, just started working on losing weight two weeks ago. Weight Watchers and the gym 3-4 days a week. Again, I’m nervous, worried that I won’t like any dresses on me because of my current size, but I keep telling myself to enjoy the day, look past my current fat arms, or armpit fat, or what size dress actually fits me. I’m currently a size 14, no clue what size wedding dress that would be. Anyway, what is everyones opinion on me ordering the next dress size down? I know a gown can be taken in up to 2 sizes. If I am a size 14, I would order the 12, which means it could be taken in to a size 8, which is my goal but I don’t expect to reach that goal in the next four months, I want to be in a 10 on my wedding day, if by some miracle when I go to get the dress altered and they take it in to a size 8, GREAT, size 10 Great. I will lose most of this weight before the wedding No if’s and’s or butt. I do not plan on altering my gown until 4 weeks before the wedding, I will pay for RUSHED alterations. Comments are appreciated!

Order the dress in the size you currently are and alter it if need be. Do NOT order down with the intent of losing weight.

Buy the size you are now. If it needs to be taken in later, great.

I would get the size you currently are. I think ordering it in a size smaller will add on extra pressure and stress to an already stressful time. I have always been self conscious about my body and even after losing weight with WW I still have those feelings. But honestly after trying on my wedding gown I don’t really think about it, it makes me feel pretty and makes the negative thoughts go away. You will look beautiful, don’t worry about it. And good luck with WW, it’s a great program 🙂

By the dress in the size you are. Most dresses can come in more than 2 sizes anyway. That 2 sizes thing is conservative and matters more the smaller the dress is. I was a 12 when I got my dress and had to order an 18. I didn’t even care about the number. I had significant alterations to take it in a the hips because those are narrow and the girls are ample. No problem. The first time I got married, I had to order a 22 and was a 14, sometimes 16. I then lost almsot 20 lbs. Again, not a problem to have ti taken in despite significant applique and beadwork.

I’m was a size 14 bride, and I felt gorgeous. These dresses really are miracle workers. Please don’t order down a size, it will totally stress you out!
