I am newly engaged and cannot wait to start shopping for a dress. I have heard that what you think will look good on you sometimes doesn’t and vice versa. Some dresses that I have looked at that I love are the Maggie Venecia dress and the Winnie Chlomin 3139. I am 5’3″ and quite petite so I’m not sure what would look best? Does anyone have any suggestions of where to start or what to figure out first!?!?! Thanks!!!!

It may sound silly, but I took note of the types of formal dresses that I like. I still have my prom dresses from like 6 years ago, so I looked at those to get a general idea of what I liked. I also did some research on my body shape and what looks good and flatters my figure. Then, I just googled wedding dresses and took it from there! I saved every picture I could. It was hard for me because I knew I wanted a red dress, but I promised FH I would try on white ones too. I had to get creative because there aren’t too many red wedding dresses. In the end, I went back to a dress shop from high school, and found my red dress!
I think once you find out what flatters you and what type of wedding you’re having, it will definitely help you scale down your choices. I’m 5’1 so I definitely understand the height challenge! I knew I didn’t want a big poofy ballgown because it would swallow me up and we’re having a beach wedding. I went with something flowy.
- Take inventory of your personal style
- Have an idea of the type of ceremony you’re having
- Get your measurements taken
- find out your body shape
- do research on what can flatter your body
- then start Googling!
