I am four hours away from friends and family and was in town for a week and wanted to look at dresses! I made an appointment for myself, my mom and bestie (MOH =]). I have had the same dress on my mind since I first saw it =]
Monique Lhuillier Scarlet! Lace and keyhole back? How could you not love it! Well I guess you could not if you dont like lace. So with this in mind, and the price of this dress (WOOWZA expensive), I wanted to see if I could find something like this with a smaller price tag.
We ventured off at around 11 and made it to this bridal salon a few of my moms friends raved about. I was excited but leary at the same time. I’ve put on some weight but decided not to let it discourage me anyway. We got there and the lady was kinda nice and took me around the salon and showed me stuff and said pick them out and bring them to your room. Did that and I noticed all the sample sizes were 10 or 8. I knew they would fit over me but not zip up and I was ok with it. When she came back to the room with me and all the beautiful dresses I was going to try on, she looked at me and then the dresses and said “Oh dear. I just dont know if these will fit you.” That kinda hit me in the gut. I told her that I was ok with it not being zipped up and tried on some anyway. After I tried on the first dress (which was beautiful but not for me) I was ready for the keyhole back lace dress just like the scarlet but with a price tag of a little less than 2000! The lady assisting me came in and I told her that was the one I wanted to try on and she said “This will not fit you.” UGGGGHHHHH! I got it! Im bigger and I want to at least try it on and if it did not fit whatever I’ll come back another time but please dont tell me no before I do. I tried it on and it didnt button up in the back but it did ft around me. After she said that and I tried it on, I was done with the salon. I felt like I wasnt someone they wanted there or someone they wanted to take the time and be polite to. So we left!
We then went to Davids which I didnt make an appointment for but they had a cancellation at the last minute! =] While waiting for the appointment I looked at dresses and one of the ladies working there told me to pick out some and she would put them to the side for my appointment. They were so nice! Anyway my appointment came around and I tried on these beauties!!!!!
Notice the keyhole back? Loved it but It didnt have lace all the way down =[ but 599? it was beautiful! Not only that, but when I came out in this I could see the look on my moms face that she loved it so I know she will love the “dream dress”
NEVER thought I would like this one but I absolutey loved it! Especially with the belt! Loved it and so did my moh and mom!
I tried on more but they werent ones I liked. Not only did they have dresses I wanted to try on, but they didnt make me feel bad about my size. They were comepltely wonderful and cant wait to go back again.
I still have to try on my “dream dress.” But I loved the strapless one from Davids.
Has anyone tried on their dream dress (or something like it) and loved other ones they tried on? How do/did you decide? How did you deal with the size issues and the salon staff?
