It depends on the dress/designer. I am normally a size 2. I was measured as a 2 for my Maggie gown, but I made them order me a size 4, because I didn't want it to be TOO form fitting with no room for gain :) It's easier to take a dress in, then to let it out.
Generally, yes, but not always. And some designers are further off street size than others.
Most are a little off, but some are spot on. It really depends on the designer.
Yes you can be up to 2 sizes bigger!
They use the old sizing system before north american designers wanted women to feel better about themselves!
I am a 10-12 street size and they ordered me a size 14 wedding dress!
It really depends. My salon wanted to order a dress 3 sizes larger based on one of my measurements since they go with the largest one. I had them order 2 sizes instead and still needed some taking in.
It depends on the designer and your measurements. Some designers are more true to size. My bust and waist measurement fell into the size 0 range but my hip measurement fell into the size 4 range so I ordered the 4.
Mine was right on...I actually went to a petite instead of regular since I am 5'4"-5'5" and right on the border of petite sizing
I agree with the others - it depends. I usually wear a street size 0 or 2, and I ordered a 2 in my dress (from DB)...a 0 probably would have worked, but the saleslady said it may be too small in the bust, and she said it'd be easier/cheaper to take it in than out.
I'm a street size 14 and I ended up needing a size 16 dress to fit the girls. = )
I'm a teeeeinytiny size zero and my Claire Pettibone is a size 4-which I actually LOVED because I felt like a real person and not some reject who wears negative sizes. It fits like a glove. I think I am really a size 4 ( I mean in JR. high I remember I had jeans from the GAP that were 3/4) but with vanity sizing gone crazy I am now a 00, but of course at 32 I'm bigger of course than I was when I was 14. So what I am trying to say is that it doesn't matter as long as it fits.

I have heard that wedding dresses fit small so you will have a higher size number than your street size tends to be. Did you find this to be true?
