I say go ahead and look in NYC with your mom for the JH dress. If it's the dress you love, then it will be worth the trip. Good luck!
I would definitely wait and go try on the JH dress. Whether that means waiting 2 weeks or going with your FI (if you don't mind him seeing the dress). If you've lusted after JH dresses, I think you should definitely at least try them on, or else I think there's a chance you could have dress regret (I know I definitely did for a while). Especially if you'd be getting a JH dress preowned, then there's no need to worry about it getting here in time, since it's already made. Good luck!
Yeah definitely wait - 2 weeks isn't going to make a big difference. Just don't wait too much longer. Ane 1 more thing - if you want to try on the dress beforehand I say go try it on yourself. I went with my sister and niece the first time I went shopping and was talked into buying a dress that I ended up HATING! I woke up with a panic attack 2 days later and called the shop to see if it was too late to change. Thankfully it wasn't and I was able to go try on other dresses and pick one out that was totally me.
There are definitely plusses in going dress shopping by yourself. If you want to bring your FI then do it...but I honestly can say that I was weirded out about going by myself until my experience and then realized I should have done it alone from the beginning. You know what looks good on you.
I would wait and try on the JH. If it is weighing this heavily on your mind you probably won't be able to shake the feeling of "what if". Best to get it out of your system by trying it on.
I agree that you should wait 2 weeks to try on the Jim Hjelm dress. I know how it feels to get antsy to get the dress situation out of the way, but you really have plenty of time to order a dress. Bridal stores recommend ordering one 9 months before, but I really don't think that's necessary. My dress came in two months after ordering it.
I don't think it's weird going dress shopping with your FI if that's what you want to do. I would have done that too, but I didn't want him to see the dress before the wedding.
Thanks ladies!
You all have really eased my anxiety. I was starting to feel like I'm being too high maintenance with my dress. The FI is willing to go dress shopping with me if that's what I want...but I really would rather he not see me in the dress that could potentially be the dress!
And this weekend we are all booked and next weekend we'll be in NYC. So it makes more sense to wait till then as well.
I think I'll call up my mom tonight and make sure we can take a couple hours out Saturday morning to go dress shopping. Then see if my SIL can go with me. I can take my niece too so she can try on flower girl dresses! =)
Thanks again ladies, hopefully I can get a appointment.
Try on the JH dress!!! Its so beautiful!
Before you go see the JH with your mom make sure you talk to her about the fact that you realize the dresses are out of the budget and if you found one you liked then you would be looking to purchase a pre-owned one online. Make sure your mom is ok with this before you go.

Good Morning Ladies, I have a dress dilemma that I hope you can provide some insight to.
I am a regular member but for some reason I felt the need to post this anonymously.
Since day (probably) 3 of being engaged I have lusted after Jim Hjelm gowns. I so desperately want to try one on and there are no salons near me that carry JH gowns. The closest is in a city 2 hours away, why we haven't made the trip yet I don't know. I was preoccupied with finding a venue and everything else took a back seat. When we're back in NYC it just seems there are always so much to do rather than spend half a day at a salon. Anyway, we're coming up on 6 months which is cutting it close to order a new gown + alteration time.
This past weekend I went dress shopping with my MOH, I was able to try WTOO Miriam that was a similar style of the JH8859 diamond back I'm lusting after. Unfortunately because of the material of the bottom of the gown and me being petite and skinny it does not do much for my figure. On the other hand I tried on a Casablanca, mermaid gown with vertical ruching on the bodice. And it does a lot for my figure. And I do like it. I'm comfortable in it and it makes me feel beautiful. I decided I'll let it stew in my head and try to see if I can find it online cheaper. The thing is I can get the Casablanca gown new straight from the designer for the same price I can get a JH gown I want preowned. I know JH has similar styles to the Casablanca style I tried on. With a little more bling and decoration which is what we felt the Casablanca gown needed.
I will be home in NYC next weekend and it's possible that I can eek out 3 hours on Saturday and ask my SIL and mom to go dress shopping with me so I can try on some JH gowns. One: my mom has yet to go dress shopping with me, so I do want to give her that experience. Two: I'm afraid they will freak out from the sticker price of JH gown although in no way shape or form would I pay full retail for the JH gown.
The point of my rambling is I feel like if I don't try on a JH gown I would always wonder. But on the other hand I feel like I'm starting to cut the time frame real close for ordering a gown (yes I know I can always pay extra to rush order).
So what do you say? Should I
A) wait out the 2 weeks and find time to try on JH when I'm in NYC next weekend even though everything will be extremely hectic with vendor meetings and Chinese New Year preparations.
B) Should I just go ahead and order the Casablanca gown?
C) Go with FI to try on JH gowns in a city 2 hours away?
There won't be any female friends nearby for the next month to go try dresses with me. And I don't really want to go dress shopping myself. Is it super weird to have FI there with me dress shopping?
Thanks!!
