If your contract says the size they ordered, and they ordered it long anyway, you should be able to negotiate a new dress or free alterations out of them. They are in the wrong for ordering it that way, unless the length is standard. Were you going to pay for a custom length? If not, then they might have just had to order the closest standard size. What designer is your dress?

Mine has lace on the bottom and I had to have a ton chopped of. The lace is often an aplique, they remove it, chop a bit off then hand sew it back on again…..I asked how they would do it on mine. Your may be the same. Good luck.

Either the lace at the bottom is an applique, and they can remove it, chop it, and re-attach it, or they’re going to have to detach the skirt from the top, remove the inches there, and then re-attach it.

Ugh! They should have just ordered the right size!

@brooke25:  Don’t be stressed about it! It’ll get detached and hemmed from the top under the ruching, no big deal! This is what it’ll look like at your fitting- my dress is similar =)

At your waist, their should be a seam to pull the skirt pull to make it shorter. My dress was scalloped at the bottom too, but with beading and lace. It cost me more than I was planning but came out great.
