Just have to vent somewhere as I keep getting the same reaction from people in real life and I’m wondering if I am crazy. I am a super organized person when it comes to planning events (studied it in school as well) and I have nearly every detail of my wedding – which is next June, so nine months away – nailed down. Venue/photographer/officiant/DJ/florist booked. Rings purchased. Centrepieces and decor planned and ready to be executed.
The one thing I don’t have is my dress. It’s just not something I’ve ever been super enthused about shopping for. I’m also not a fan (no offense to anyone who has one, as I think they look beautiful on other people!) of what seems to be the trend towards strapless, dropped waist, full poofy skirt, etc. style. I am afraid I’m not going to be able to find what I want in bridal shops (vintage vibe, possibly tea-length, non-traditional). I’m also not happy with my current weight which I think could also be contributing to not wanting to look until I’ve lost some pounds. Either way, I just don’t feel the need to have the “perfect” dress. I mean, I want to look pretty and get something I like, but it’s not the be-all-end-all for me.
The point of my leadup: Everytime someone new asks me about the wedding, right after they ask to see the ring, I get the “What does your dress look like?” questions and when I tell them I don’t have it yet and that it’s not a huge deal, I get looked at like I have a third eye. One of my friends even said, “You’re the only girl I’ve ever heard of who didn’t care that much about the dress.”
Am I really crazy for not being super excited about looking for/purchasing a dress?? I’m not getting married for another 9 months – have I already put off purchasing it too long? When do people normally start buying them?
