so my dresses have been hanging in the closet of the spare bedroom since the day after the wedding. what are we supposed to do with it now? i have heard vaguely about preservation and something about non-acid storage but i really have no clue what that is.
what did you do with your dress? and why? if you stored it, do you really think your daughter is going to wear it or?? i know the logical thing is to clean and preserve, i’m just not sure why you shoud do that, other than the sentimental value. my mom has forbidden a “trash the dress” session…..
did anyone change their dress to make it re-wearable? like shorten, dye it etc?

If you are planning to sell your dress, I would have it cleaned ASAP. I’ve heard some brides talk about making it into a cocktail dress, but that all depends on what your wedding dress looks like.
Or you can look into places to donate it.

I preserved mine not because I ever think anyone will wear it, but because I LOVED going through my mom’s and grandmother’s wedding things after I got engaged. Even though I didn’t plan on wearing any of their dresses, just getting to see them in person was a really wonderful experience. I’d hate for any daughter I may wind up having to want to see my dress, or maybe use pieces of it in decorations or her her bouquet and to have to tell her “oh, I sold it”. It may never happen, but, for me, the opportunity cost wasn’t something I was willing to deal with to save a few hundred dollars. :o)

I’m planning on selling mine as well (hopefully!). If you want to sell it you’ll probably have more luck if you get it cleaned, so I’d at least do that.
