I just wanted to know if any other petite brides had the same sort of experience I did when dress shopping, I am only 5'3" and built like a bird with few curves (I look like a kid), and when I went dress shopping just about everything completely overwhelmed me. I felt like my options were really limited because anything more voluminous than a sheath made me look like a cake or it looked like it was eating me. I couldnt even take myself seriously in all of the lovely ballgowns I wanted to try on, even the A-lines tended towards being too much dress for me. The veils were also very overwhelming and I ended up going with a hair comb because the veils just made me look even shorter. I also realized that any dresses with 3-d details or large accents like flowers looked overly huge on me. I ended up finding a lace sheath that i LOVED with a unique back for my "wow" factor, but I am curious about other girls, did you have a hard time finding a dress that suited you, show me what you picked or want!
I think having curves probably helps, Its hard to feel like a woman in a glamorous dress when you look like a kid playing dress up. You girls look so gorgeous!
I felt the same wayyy!!!! I'm 5'1 (on a good day) and I thought I wanted this BAM fit n flare/mermaid style, but I felt swallowed by them. Not too mention I felt like I kept seeing the same thing over and over. I only put on a handful of sheaths but my mother kept calling them "promy" which kinda ruined it. The last sheath however, was very different. I walked away from the apointment and came back an hour later to buy it. I can't wait to get it in MY size, sample was a little big.
Here's the front:

and the back on me:

I am 4'9" (but 5'1" with my heels
). I will be wearing an A-line Casablanca dress (style 2024). I REALLY REALLY wanted to show off my curves in a trumpet or mermaid dress but I felt that those shapes made me look shorter and accentuated my curves way too much (I am well endowed on bottom and on top - hourglass figure).
I am 5'0 3/4" and I woke an a-line gown and it was so beautiful. I wore 2 1/2 inch heals with it but took them off after the ceremony.

@Danielle81: I agree...your gown is absolutely gorgeous!!!!
I'm 5'1" with no hips or ass whatsoever, so I feel you! Here's mine:
I'm 5" too w/ a very boyish shape. I had to wear 3 1/2" heels and one of those bras from Victoria's Secrets that makes your chest 2 cup sizes bigger. Normally I don't try to fake it, but I just didn't look right in this dress without a little "enhancement". hehe
I'm 5'3 and I ahve a big bust and some curves. This is the dress I'm wearing. It flatters and I feel taller. LOL

@MamaMima: thank you SO much! I honestly felt like a princess in it! I got so many compliments all day and it felt like it was made for me! :)
I don't have a pic of me in my dress yet... 3 more months til it comes in!!
I'm 5' and kinda pear shaped. I'm wearing 3 1/2 inch heels to boost me up to 5'3 1/2" ... I'll still be short, but it's better than 5'!!

I'm almost 5'1, with some curves (bigger up top but small hips), and I originally thought I wanted a big, princess-style dress, but when I tried them on, I felt like the dress was wearing me more than I was wearing it. I ended up with a mermaid style, with sweetheart neckline and an embellished belt. My veil went just below my shoulders.
I'm 5'0" and a street size 0 - 1. I have an a-line dress that wasn't too much dress (although I know what you mean, some of them feel HUGE). Also, the dress is clearly too long in this pic and has since been shortened.
Im 5'1 and had the exact same problem as you. everything completely overwhelmed me. My dress (the one pictured) was a tea length and almost touched the floor lmao. I cut quite a bit off and heres the result! I LOVED my dress even though I had NO intentions of getting a short dress.

Wow all the dresses on here are soooo gorgeous! I am drooling over them even though I am already married hahaha! Nice jobs ladies!
I'm 5'3 (5'6 in my wedges). I wanted A-line or mermaid in the beginning, but I fell in love with this sheath with vertical detailing. It might just be in my head, but I think the vertical detailing helps give me a little height. I'm curvy/pear-shaped - bigger on the bottom than the top. I'm definitely working to lose weight and tone my arms before the wedding, though at this point the dress (my dress!!) fits like a glove in the hips and waist. I'm going to remove the belt - I think it's in the worst possible place.
I'm 5'1 and I found that anything fitted made me look more like a guest rather than a bride. I had to go with something that was a bit more busy and poofy.

I went with DB Style SAS1210, an A-line dress with a sweetheart neckline and tulle skirt:
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Spaghetti-Strap-Tulle-with-Sweetheart-Neckline-SAS1210
The dress pretty much looks the same on the model as it does on me- we look pretty similar aside from her tan lol.
I'm 5'2'', but people tend to think I'm taller, maybe because I'm thin. But I'm wearing 6 inch platform heels on my wedding day! I think without the heels I would look like a flower girl! I think the fact that my dress is made of tulle makes it not 'eat me up' so much, though.
I'm 5'1 wearing 4 inch heels on my wedding with a ball gown. I figured everyone coming to my wedding already knows I'm short so I may as well wear the dress I want with heels the height that I usually wear...hahahahaha...Your wedding day is about being comfortable and happy with who you are!! Yay petite brides!! Hahaha!

I am 5'1" and will be wearing 3 1/2 inch heels, here is my Allure 8825 dress, this is the sample and I am standing on the raised platform with heels and it is just touching the ground so I had to order a custom length.

I'm barely 5'1 and my fiance is a foot taller than me, so I'm going to wear the highest semi-comfortable wedges I can find (no heels because ceremony is on the grass)! Haha. I love big dresses and I think I looked ok in them, but I have to admit that some fuller dresses looked like they were wearing me, instead of the other way around. But i definitely think a petite bride can wear most styles, you just have to find the right one for you!
I compromised with a dress that was a slimmer fit, but still has a a bit of volume to the skirt (not as big as I wanted, but oh well). (I've posted this dress before, you may have seen it- sorry!).

Hi!
I´m 5"3 too, and had the same prblems when trying on dresses. I went for a mermaid dress with some kind of "lace curtain", I´ll show you a picture! I wore instead o a veil a mantilla! Hope you like it!

This is my dress. I originally thought this dress wan't very pretty, having only seen the DB pictures on their site, but when I went dress shopping, I saw it on the sales rack and said that was the one. I didn't even have to try it on to know that was the only dress for me. It was on the sales rack because some of the flower aplices were not completely sewn on and they had it on a final sale price of $250, which fit my budget just right. And when I tried it on, I was even more sure that this was my dress. Now I have yet to get it hemmed (I am 5 ft 1 in) mainly because I haven't found the perfect shoes yet. :(
If anyone knows of shoes that would look good with this, let me know. I am trying to find something with a low heel and preferably something that is not strappy. I tried a few on at DB but none them fit with the dress... I have a few months so there is still time to find my dream wedding shoes.

Im 5'1 1/2 and curvy, so this made it difficult to find something that fit me just right. I originally wanted a fitted gown, with some volume, ruching (I thought this would make me look thinner), and that had the WOW factor. However, I found that many of the dresses with rouching made me look bigger around the hips. I was lucky to find Maggie Sottero Leighton. I think that the corset on the top is what gave me the fitted slim look that I was looking for.
Fellow petite bride here! :) I had the same experience. Every dress I tried on was wearing me, I got lost in them. My grandmother even commented on one of them saying "You look like Scarlett O'Hara wearing her curtain dress." >_<
Unfortunately I don't have a picture of my dress to share right now, and the only one I can find online (yes, only a single picture exists in all the cyberworld) definetly doesn't do the dress any justice. The dress looks way different hanging up and on the model in the one stock photo than it does on me. I ended up going with a higher waistline. Aside from having too much material that I was being overwhelmed and getting lost in fabric, one of the major things we noticed was that the rest of the dresses I tried on had lower waistlines. Well, I guess the waistlines were "normal" but I just have a shorter waist. So things looked very disproportionate on me and made me look even shorter!
I'm just a tiny little bit under 5 Feet and I'm wearing about 4 inch heel, my dress is Paloma Blanca 4050
I don't have a picture of me in a dress

I am in love with your dresses, I love lacy dresses and I love straps!!! and I am geeking out over all the awesome dresses on here!
your dress is so pretty and floaty it looks magical! that makes me sound like a nerd hahaha!
@LaraW: Thank you so much! Yours is gorgeus!
It´s from Pronovias, it´s called Finisterre.
i'm 5'2, and curvy (34-26-36), and i also was worried about being overwhelmed by the dress. i looked at primarily sheath or mermaid dresses, and ultimately picked this dress. it was "more dress" than i initially thought i wanted, but i loved it!
I had fun shopping. I wanted poofy, and I got pretty poofy. I thought I want the full princess pickups, but I ended up going with simple poofy. I'm 5'0 tall.

@Ms. Gremmlin: Ooo, I love your dress! It reminds me of Kate Middleton's reception dress :)
