I’m not that great at picking out clothes for myself, much less other people. I’m also not particularly tied to tradition, and an older (35) bride. So I was planning to let my three bridesmaids wear whatever dresses they want appropriate to the wedding (daytime, military) and aiming to generally match the color (cranberry/dark red) – like Mrs. Sunbeam did (only hers are a mostly a brighter red than I intend):
Hometown Love: The Lovely Bridesmaids
That is, until my sister/MOH came across this:
Choose color “merlot.” Aaaaaah!! The perfect dress in the perfect color!! And there are several other great dresses that come in this perfect color – for ~$300!!! Too much for my girls.
Do any of you who have far better shopping skills (patience) than I have any suggestions on similar dresses for less $$?

Have you checked out Jim Hjelm/Alvina Valenta/Lazaro? I feel like they have a ton of one shoulder dresses.

I suggest contacting shops in your area that sell that designer and get prices from them because they tend to vary. Check the website too to see if they are having trunk shows in your area and you can also get your girls a discount that way. Some shops will also provide discounts if you buy more than one dress so ask that question too! My girls got Jim Hjelm dresses and they had some beautiful styles as well under $200. Good luck!

I got my gorgeous MOB gown in great fabric and quality from http://www.keepmeinstitches.biz They have a “brick and mortar” store in PA/NJ area. I saw short BM dresses for $75-85. and many styles have the dresses in burgundy. You can order a swatch of the fabric to check out the color. Unfortunately they do charge for it now. They also have some wedding gowns and accessories too. You definitely have to get properly measured, (I went to my local drycleaner seamstress) because I usually buy 2x and I had to get a 5x in their sizes. Their customer service was very good too. I didn’t have to return anything, but I don’t think they take returns. Check out their policy.
