Well based on your original picture, for starters, the bodice should be longer since the skirt of the dress flares from much lower down at hip length rather than just under your waist. The gathered part is also set to the side rather than at the centre. Also, I know what you mean about the skirt not being quite right. The gathering currently leaves a slightly awkward fold of material. I suspect quite a lot could be improved if the bodice was longer though.

Part of the problem is that there’s no crinoline, so the skirt doesn’t look as full as the original. Also, I think your eyes are playing tricks on you; because the pickups are off to the one side, it makes the skirt look weird (I see what you mean for sure)

@Steampunkbride:  The pickups aren’t in the center on the original dress.

@Jenny7:  I see what you mean vs. the original. The original is more like pleats and then under that pulled up almost like there’s a string in there.

Do you think there is any way to ask them to put an underskirt on the mannequin so you can see what it looks like? That might help better pinpoint what you would like to do.

To me, the biggest concern is the very top fold. The bottom ones actually look quite lovely, but the top one looks funky… I wouldn’t worry about asking them to change much just on the folds of the skirt, though making the bodice longer I think would be really difficult to do.

Don’t worry, though, I’m sure it will still be beautiful!

@vorpalette:  Yes, that was what I was trying to say. They are quite differently located to the side on the original dress. Which will make a huge difference to how it hangs.

@Jenny7:  First off, it looks beautiful,  but I do agree the pick up looks hastily done. There shouldn’t be curved folds like this:

They need to redo the pick up so it looks more intentional and not haphazard. I do agree that the crinoline will help immensely,  but the pick up needs fixing first.
