Ok… So, at this point, I’m probably looking for reassurance, virtual pats on the back and lots of fingers crossed…
My beautiful, beautiful dress is at the dry-cleaner’s. Before the wedding. Why? Because, like some bees on here, I couldn’t afford a full-price gown, so I bought off-the-rack. And heavily discounted at that ($99. Canadian)
But the main reason I chose that dress is: I LOVED IT! It was sooo me! And overall, it wasn’t in bad shape at all. Just not pristine. But no snags or anything.
Now, because of it’s tenure as a sample dress and it’s not-quite-pristine status, I have taken it to the dry cleaners. Now I wait for a week, biting my nails, hoping for the best. I have read and heard so many horror dry-cleaning stories, that I’m just hoping hoping hoping it comes back unscathed.
If anyone can spare some good clean-unscathed-dress vibes, it would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Well, I don’t know anyone who’s had their dress dry cleaned before the wedding but plenty who have had them done after, and they all looked amazing and pristine afterwards, so I don’t think you have anything to worry about! 🙂

I had mine drycleaned after my wedding before I tried to sell it, and it was flawless! I had quite a bit of dirt on it from our picture sessions, and it was totally clean. I’m sure it’ll be fine!

Thanks, Crayfish and BerryBerry! I’m happy (ecstatic!) to report that I picked my beautiful dress up from the dry cleaner’s on Saturday, and it came out completely unscathed and flawless! 🙂 It is shiny and gorgeous and perfect! (I was particularly anxious because, two days before I had to pick it up, I started reading really bad online reviews (not wedding-dress-related) about the dry cleaner I had taken it to! Goes to show how reviews can often be just the reflection of one person’s experience. Or maybe I just got extremely lucky.
Either way, The Dress is safely clean, shiny and lovely and hanging in my closet right now. Hooray!
Thanks again for the words of encouragement and reassurance!

I hate to be a debbie-downer but I am actually living through a dry cleaning nightmare as we speak!..[or type] I took the dress to get dry cleaned and a lot of the beading/embellishment came off. I pointed it out to the employees, so today “their” seamstress is going to take a look at the dress to hopefully be able to repair the damages [at their cost] it looks fixable to me.. I was prepared like you say since listening to so many “horror stories” but I am sure they will do justice by me & the dress. I have been more than polite and one thing I have learned in my lifetime is rudeness gets you now where 😉 wish me luck! Should get the dress back Monday w repairs done.
