I don't think it's normal to wash a dress before the wedding. Do you feel like your dress looks dirty?
If not, I wouldn't worry about it! Steaming it makes it look fresh!
Is your dress new or used? If it's new, I don't think it's typical. Dry cleaning a wedding gown is pretty expensive, and you run the risk of damage during the process, especially with the beading (I used to work at a dry cleaner when I was in high school).
I'd really only consider doing it before the wedding if it was actually dirty. My dress is definitely dirty now after the wedding - and I still haven't had it cleaned yet! I keep putting it off.
i just got my wedding dresses back from the dry clearner and they were shinier and more sparkly than when i got it from the dress shop!!
not sure why, i did comment that to the dry cleaner and she said it may be because when they mass manufacture, they take it from a dusty warehouse.
My Casablanca dress beading looks sparklier and look more expensive beading than when i took it from the bridal shop.
practically speaking even now i see how sparkly my beads are, i still probably wouldn't pay $200 to dry clean my dress though before AND after. i'd only do it once, afterwards.
Bump
And my dress is new, not used... to clarify from the earlier post.
No, I just wore mine straight from the store and had it steamed before the wedding.

Hello Ladies,
I had a question for brides or former brides. I am wondering if you had your wedding gown dry cleaned before your wedding.
I'm almost afraid that they might ruin it before the big day, but I also want the dress fresh when I wear it.
My mom commented that she wished she had dry cleaned hers before the wedding because she noticed how much whiter it seemed after she cleaned it. Apparently the dress had a yellowish tinge beforehand that she didn't notice until after it was cleaned.
Sooo, is it typical to dry clean a dress before the wedding?
