@ladyartichoke: I just started watching it. On about a 5 min delay because it's recorded.
It's making me cringe already...
How can people be so financially irresponsible.
@KatNYC2011: I agree. And it's all very well saying we'll fly 17 people (give or take) part way around the world but £12,000 is not a lot to do it on. AND have a theme!
@ladyartichoke: Esp when you are buying a dress for a bride who used to work in fashion. You can't really half a$$ the dress when your bride knows fashion.
@ladyartichoke: I did feel kind of bad for the poor salon owner having her dresses criticized like that, but I guess some guys are really clueless about fashion.
@KatNYC2011: I don't think I'd trust SO when it comes to clothes. And I'm not especially into fashion.
@ladyartichoke: I'm not sure I'd trust mine either. He's really good with jewlery... but clothes, I'm not so sure about.
PS the dress she found was actually really nice.
@KatNYC2011: Yeah the dress is nice, and the same price. Bargain! He did good on the shoes.
@ladyartichoke: Ooo... shoes. I'm a bit behind, I'm not the biggest fan of the shoes, but I like the jacket.
I'm cracking up at hailing a taxi in a wedding dress.
OK... just saw the real shoes... WOW!!
Jealous much!
@KatNYC2011: Not very elegant eh? Wait til they get on the subway!
I like the jacket too!!!
The venue looks really lovely especially the mad hatters table. I want a fairy god father :)
@KatNYC2011: Oh goodness yes, the first pair were AWFUL. Don't think I'd say no to a pair of Jimmy Choos, more pricey than the dress!!
ETA: Woop- 500th post!!
@ladyartichoke: Subway! This is making me miss NYC.
Only in NYC do you find an old, gay, fair godfather type who can pull together a Mad hatter wedding in a matter of days.
PS - on the subway I starting laughing out loud at the poor girl stuck trying to get out of the subway while they were all going down.
OMG the decor is awesome. A through the looking glass door... holy cow. And the table. I'm in LOVE with this wedding decor.
@ladyartichoke: I spent the last 5 years there. My family is all on the west coast, but I "became an adult" in NYC I like to think.
I moved there right after graduating college and DH and I lived there together when we got engaged. So many memories in NYC.
Cracking up at how they served american chips (aka crisps) with the fish and "chips".
@ladyartichoke: I really loved how that wedding turned out.
Although I'm not sure how she'd feel knowing a lot of her guests had to pay to be there.
NYC will always hold a very special place in my heart.
Bumping for the UK morning crew.
Anyone else watch last night?
@KatNYC2011: I did and I loved it. He did do a lot of daft things, but it came out alright.
I know it sounds horrible, but if I'm attending a destination wedding I expect to pay my own way, so I don't think it's that unreasonable for him to have asked. I attended a friend's wedding in India at a cost of over £1000, but I didn't begrudge them a penny!
@SpecialSundae: That is true. If I'm attending a destination wedding I expect to pay as well. But I usually have more than 2 days notice.
@KatNYC2011: That is very true.
I do think they make it artificially difficult sometimes with the budget. Do these couples really not have a single penny of their own to put into the budget?
@SpecialSundae: Maybe the couples themselves are not allowed to put any money in? But they can ask freinds and family to make things more interesting?
Also, They had to have some of this pre-arranged. Getting flights and hotels in NYC right around Christmas is nearly impossible.
ETA: They also have to have help/direction in finding venues. I mean how on earth would they have found that little gallery downtown in a city they don't know without some sort of guidance.
@KatNYC2011: Oh definitely. I think they also tend to have had a long discussion beforehand about what they want... it's just that usually the guy utterly ignores it!
@SpecialSundae: Haha yeah. You'd think the minute a couple applies for this show, the bride would lay out her weddign ideas just in case. I mean, I know I would!
Gutted I missed this thread! But from what I remember... urgh grotty hotel, urgh awful dress and wow surprised how well it came together at the end. She did love it. So it wasn't another Vegas (sadly, for me as the viewer).
And I did think of you as well, Kat, and wonder what you'd make of an NYC wedding. Darn.
@VickyAurea: I was hoping it'd be another "vegas" wedding in the end too, but I think it would just left a bitter taste in my mouth.
