First time poster, long time stalker.
I’m an Aussie bride who is having a DW in Vanuatu in (OMG) a week and a half! There are only 8 people coming. Both sets of parents, us and two bestfriends.
Last night I had a terrible time getting to sleep. I’ve been feeling really emotional about the whole thing. I’m stressing that my dress is too plain, that the destination is too tribal, that my shoes are wrong, but most of all that my Destination Wedding choice has robbed me of all the things I love about weddings! Silly things like; I don’t get to be centre of attention in front of my whole family and friends, I don’t get a lolly buffet, I didn’t have a hens nights etc. All really silly things but all of a sudden, this close to the wedding, I wish I’d had them!
We chose a Destination Wedding for the intimacy and fact that it was more about ‘us’ than a performance. So why am I feeling this way and has anyone else felt like this? I feel guilty and vain!

Anxiety is normal, and you are only a week and a half away! WooHoo!
Destination weddings can be especially stressful and I can guarentee that no one is going to stop you from getting married becuase your shoes were wrong. When it comes down to the thick of it the things that are most worried about arn’t really the things that matter anyway. What DOES matter is that you are marrying the guy of your dreams and that 8 of your closest friends and family are going to be there to celebrate it with you. (Never have I walked away from a wedding (even an intimate one) Thinking ‘gee that was a great wedding but her dress was so plain it ruined the whole thing’.) It is going to be wonderful.
You are going to be BEAUTIFUL! and you are getting MARRIED!!!!! Yippie!!!!
On a side note. If you are still super bummed about a hen party what is preventing you from having a ‘girls night out’ when you return in celebration? It might not be an official hen party, but you can certainly party it up and bring all the lollies you like!

I’ve decided we are definately going to have a party after we get back now. I might even fit a girls night in too. I will definately be eating lollies at both having worked hard to lose weight the last few months.
Thanks for your reply. It really helped put thing into perspective. We choose this Destination Wedding because of the IMPORTANT things and once it’s all happening I’ll forget the silly things. 🙂

I’m sorry to hear you are upset, hopefully you will just get really excited when the time comes to go on your lovely trip. Why dont you get a professional to video it & you can have it made into a video with music that you can put on youtube or emails & share it with family & friends? Or have a party when you get back & wear your wedding outfits & play your video for family & friends & do a slideshow. Also i have heard of Destination Wedding with people watching on skype? Although I am not sure how reliable the internet is in Vanuatu, if it is anything like Samoa it can be slow at best :-). I have been to Vanuatu, Im sure you will have a lovely time. At least you have your parents & bridesmaids watching.
