We invited everyone imaginable. One of the reasons we had a DW was because we knew a lot of guests wouldn’t come so it avoided hurt feelings while still ensuring we could afford our wedding. we invited over 200 and have 85 coming. i dont’ think you should wait until you see who declines because with a destination wedding, unfortunately you probably won’t know who is coming and not until the last minute. we still have people saying they are coming who haven’t booked yet… and our wedding is in like 7 weeks!

@jlc3:  We are having a destination wedding and did not invite everyone we would have had it been a local wedding.

We invited all our family members that we are close to (no second cousins whom we haven’t seen in years), and close friends.  There was kind of a natural line where we cut off the list where it went from people we really wanted to be there to people that we would like to be there, but would not mind if they were not.

We do have a few people that we would extend invites to if we get a lot of declines (basically a B-list), but it is really only a few families on my stepmom’s side.

@jlc3:  I had a destination wedding and we did not invite all the people we would have if it were a local wedding. I invited only immediate family and a few close cousins and close friends. WE eneded up having 70 people come which was a good turnout! Most people booked in advance but some came last minute also so you never really know the guest count til a few weeks before the wedding
