If both are in the budget, go for both!  Otherwise I’d say out of town bags.  What do you plan to do for favors?

@AshleyR83:  I agree with this. But if you only have to pick one I would also go with the Out of Town bags.

You have to do whatever is right for you within your budget, so I can’t tell you what you should do, but I will share what I’m doing.  I am doing Out of Town bags in the hotels and an edible favor at the wedding.  The Out of Town bags are fairly inexpensive and are more for the purpose of welcoming people after a (semi) long drive and conveying important info about the weekend.  They will include snacks, bottled water, a weekend itinerary and local area information.  Then I will have favors at the wedding.

We’re (semi) destination as well and only doing the bags, though they’ll have a lot of favor-type things in them (beyond maps, water, and snacks, we’re also including locally-made chocolates, a novel set on the island and a mix cd).

I would do whatever is within your budget. However, the last Destination Wedding we went to, they only did edible favors. Granted the guest list was mostly close family members so maybe that’s why. Something to keep in mind though is whether your guests will actually like the stuff in the bags/favors, especially the non-edible stuff, as that’s just more stuff for them to pack in their luggage. To be very candid, we didn’t like the edible favor we got at this Destination Wedding and we actually left one of the two (since we opened one) at the condo/time share we rented in the pantry.

i think its up to you. if you have to pick one, i say Out of Town bags are more important and appreciated.   I did Out of Town bags and was going to skip the favors, but then decided to make one of the items in my Out of Town bag the favor.  Specifically, i had sandalwood fans that i was going to give everyone in their bags  (amongst other stuff), but decided it would be better and more useful to them if we handed them out at the ceremony, since the ceremony was on the beach adn it would be hot.

I am doing favours for my Thailand Destination Wedding – personalised sandalwood fans for the ladies and customised stubby coolers for the gents!

I am doing a bag with travel essentials, some wine and info about the destination. For the wedding, we are doing something edible. Our thought was they were coming so far, we wanted them to have a few surprises.

I’m only doing out of town bags…but with little gifts that will basically be the favors! since people will be staying at an all inclusive resort – things like chips, drinks will be easily available

    so im thinking:

welcome letter, itinerary, map and contact details of main people

London playing cards (im from london)

Mini bottle tequila with personalised labels (wedding in mexico and fiance mexican)

    hangover kit

some kind of candy or edible thing

my firned offered to make beautiful beaded keyrings for free so i considered that.

i initially thought about flipflops for ladies (bit of walking between church and reception up a hill) but the different sizes got a bit tricky
