Hi Bees – I was initially totally convinced and happy with our decision to have extensive canapes/small plates that continues for 2 hours (option of 3) at our Destination Wedding in Thailand, rather than a sit down meal. This was to encourage mingling etc…
However, I am somewhat stressing about this thinking there will not be enough food and people won’t be happy! Has anyone been to a canape only wedding? What did you think? I would love to hear if you loved it (or didn’t).
The venue has great food (and will be far better than it sounds believe me) and I am sure the serves etc will be extremely generous…
- Roasted Beef with Melon
- Salmon Roll
- Smoked Chicken
- Smoked Salmon on Toast
- Prawn Cocktail
- Deep Fried Corn Dumpling
- Deep Fried Minced Pork on Bread
- Deep Fried Calamari
- Thai Spicy Grilled Duck Salad
- Thai Spicy Prawn Salad
- Chicken Peanut Satay
- Mussel Souffle with Red Curry (we are taking a chance on this exotic item!)
- Mini Burger a la Mode
- Leg of Lamb with Garlic Cream Sauce
- Tropical Fresh Fruit
- Chocolate Éclair
- Thai Dessert (again a bit of an adventure – don’t know what this will be!)
- Shrimp Cracker
- Deep Fried Wonton

@Miss TNK: I just saw your reply to my Destination Wedding post and then saw this post. Firstly i think your menu looks amazing! I have never been to a canape only wedding. But you have a lot of choice. My one question is about the leg of lamb, how do they serve it as its not finger food is it?

@traveller: Oh I’m sooo glad you think it sounds good! The leg of lamb will be carved and then served on small plates. And I am loving your addition on the other post of pad thai with prawns! 🙂

@Miss TNK: I think there will be plenty of food for everyone, also we are doing canapes for a cocktail party in Thailand and our resort said they will keep bringing out canapes until the hour/hours are over so I presume yours will be the same?

This sounds fantastic. I remember being at my uncle’s wedding as a kid and it was only finger food. The two things I’d say is that there wasn’t enough food, and it was right over a mealtime so everyone was starving, and there was nowhere to sit or any shade. My dad was pretty ill at the time and having to stand in the blazing sunshine made him a whole lot worse. So, it wasn’t a great experience, but not because of having canapes. As long as you have those things covered, it should be great!

I think the menu sounds amazing but the only thing is aside from the fresh fruit and the fried corn dumpling there would be nothing I could eat. If you are 100% positive that you don;t have any vegetarians then I think you will be fine.

@traveller: Yes – It will be the same where it is refreshed as required, so hopefully everyone will have enough food!
@clumsylawyer: Glad to hear you think the food sounds good! We definitely have shade and it will be in the evening, also with lounges available. And fingers crossed we have enough food! 🙂
@j_jaye: Sorry you can’t eat much on the menu! We don’t have any vegetarians coming, which is why there isn’t much exclusively vegetarian offerings on the menu! 🙂

Looks great, I’m getting hungry! Small plates are fine as long as the food keeps coming, so make sure to ask them about how many refills on food, etc.
