you definitely can get away with one under a dress like that!
i just took the plunge yesterday, and i highly recommend it - i blogged about it here:
i have always loved this idea! something to keep in mind is that it will probably shorten the length of the gown if you add a crinoline so you may want to decide before you get it altered.

can you even fit one under a gown like this? i would love to have a burst of colour underneath my ivory dress.
