I ordered a custom gown. I just received it the other day. I was disappointed and I am returning the dress. But, like I said on another post, if you have the time and a plan B it is worth the risk. My worst case scenerio came true and now I have to find a new dress. The place I bought from had good reviews, but the dress I received was three sizes too small. The material was cheap. And the embelishments were not the same as the picture. Now- I asked the seller before I bought if the dress pictured was a picture of a dress they had actually shown, or if it was a picture of a dress they were trying to replicate. They said they had actually sewn it and that I would received that same dress but in my size. They offered a return policy and 100% gaurantee. So I bought it. It took 42 days to get it (from Hong Kong).

AN IMPORTANT TIP: You have 45 days to make a dispute with paypal if you either don’t get your item or it is significantly not as described.

In my situation it is day 43. Seller has already said I can return for full refund. I however filed a dispute anyway because I’m not going to be getting a refund in as little as two days. So I had to file a dispute so if, in the event that the seller keeps my dress and does not issue refund, then I am eligable to make a claim. If I had not done that and 45 days had past, then I would not have been out of luck. I just wanted you to be aware.

My advice to you is to choose a seller that accepts refunds and has hundreds of positive reviews. There aren’t very many. Even though I did my research it didn’t work out, but I believe there that there are still many happy brides on ebay so if you take the risk, just be informed.

Try searching eBay custom gowns even just here on WB. A lot of bride have done it and been successful. I’ve found that the brides that have tend to be successful paid for professional measurements.

And there really are TONS of custom gown creators out there. Each of them is probably a different company and seamstress so they are not all created equal.

I’ve been looking at Milly Bridal and will probably go with them if I can not find the original of whatever my dream dress is under budget.

P.S. ebaybride, so sorry your dress didn’t work out! 🙁

Good Luck!

I got mine on Ebay. It actually looks pretty good. It’s got cheaper-looking lace (but honestly looks like anything i’ve seen at davids’ bridal) and she made my dress too small in the hips. Thank goodness mom can sew. I suggested having her make it big, then having it profesionally altered, but I think it’s still worth the money unless you’re set on swarovskis and alcenon lace and all that. The style of my dress is right on to an expensive jim hjelm. Honestly, the only difference is the material. It’s not as luxe, but that’s why i could afford it! I’ll post pics

Sorry I have no pics of me in it. I can’t fit it over my hips until mom alters it. And i didn’t get a crinoline. Still cute!

She has some negative people crabbing about the cheap material, but honeslty, what do you expect for $150? I think it’s fine. It’s just regular inexpensive material. Honestly, I bought a real Maggie for $400 and its made of "polyester" so…you know, don’t expect silk, haha. Definitely order it larger than you think you’ll need though. This is a common issue I think.

Another option you may want to try if you are a bit weary about e-bay is going to a local seamstress.  Alot of local seamstresses will sew the dress of your dreams for a few hundred dollars and usually you get to select the material (feel and sight can make a huge difference) plus you will be able to work with them as you go (no alterations required).

Good Luck!
