So, we're doing the whole long distance thing. It's nine hours "home" to Mackinac Island between the Upper and Lower Peninsula of Michigan on Lake Huron. Our wedding is 10/3/10. I was just there two weekends ago and the weather was rainy, windy and bitterly cold. October is a crap shoot on the Island but with the FI's family owning a bicycle shop, there's no way they can afford to shut down the shop in the summer. I'm okay with a rainy wedding even though Plan A is to have it outside but I am stressing about the TTD shoot.

The TTD will be taken on our mountain bikes out on some trails with the hopes of getting all dirty. I'm afraid I'm going to freeze my butt off if we do it in October. So....

The FI came up with a brilliant plan. Go home for a long weekend in the summer and get our TTD pictures out of the way. Sure it might rain while we're there but at least it won't snow (I hope I didn't just jinx myself).

I emailed our photographer and if we do a TTD in July and then the wedding in Oct, he's going to throw in an E photo session worth $500. So cool!

@Miss Sydney - Trash The Dress - TTD. It's a photo shoot where the bride does all kinds of crazy stuff wearing her dress - riding a bike, maybe, or a horse, or going in a lake so the skirt poofs up in the water, or just sitting on the dusty ground. I've seen some really extreme sessions that involve paint, scissors or fire (scary, in my opinion), but mostly it's stuff that just gets the dress dirty.

@MackinacJeni - are you planning to wear your ceremony/reception dress, or are you having another for the TTD session? Sounds like it'll be fun!

ps - my family used to vacation on Mackinac, I have soooo many fond memories of that place! I'm from West Michigan :)

@DDW - I bought a dress for (drum roll please) $4.59 at Goodwill that I plan on using for the TTD shoot.

Looks like the long weekend trip this summer is going to be a whirlwind. Here's the photo sessions we have planned.

    Thursday 7/8/10 - Engagemnet Shoot

Friday 7/9/10  - Trash the Dress shoot (with Goodwill dress)

    3 MONTHS LATER

    Sunday 10/3/10 - wedding

I would enjoy your e pictures and save the TTD for after the wedding. This would be fun to do on your first anniversary!

Haha, thanks for clarifying about the dress for the TTD!  I was scared for a minute about a dress being destroyed before the wedding =O

@ AmberMcBride - we are planning on showing the TTD pictures and a TTD movie shoot at the reception. This wedding is about as unconventional as it gets considering my FI and I both race road, mountain and cyclocross bikes across the country 9 months out of the year. Our guest list is less than 50 people and the majority of them is related to the biking industry or involved in some other athletic / competitive sport (triathlons, motocross, etc).

Waiting til the 1 year anniversay still makes the "weather iffy" October Northern Michigan and with postponing the honeymoon til the following year and other already allocated vacations/business trips, we won't be going back there the whole year.

Sounds fun!  I really wanted to do a TTD shoot but the worst I could do wear I lived was rolling the dirt which doesn't seem to glamourous after seeing people swimming in their dresses!
