So I used to get ear infections a ton when I was a kid, but haven’t had one since then.
I have a cold right now and I woke up last night with my ear in a lot of pain. I figured I might have been sleeping on it weird so I ignored it and went back to sleep.
This morning it still really hurts and feels plugged.
I’m not sure if this is just a side effect of the cold I have or an ear infection. I’m debating whether or not I should go see my Dr.
Anyone have experience with getting ear infections as an adult? What do they feel like? Will it go away on it’s own?

Sounds like an ear infection to me. It might go away on its own, but I would seek medical attention if it is bothering you more than 24 hours.

I had three ear infections last year and it was probably the worst pain I’ve ever felt. It started out as just an annoying pain and then turned to unbearable overnight. I also had the feeling that it was plugged and my hearing was muffled.
I think they can go away on their own, but the pain was so bad for me that I had to see a doctor and get antibiotics. My doctor suggested using a mixture of 1/2 apple cider vinegar to 1/2 water, using a dropper to apply a few drops into my ear canal and massage gently. This can sometimes help allieviate symptoms if you feel one coming on.

@MrsBot: Thanks for that info! I’ll keep an eye on it and see where it goes. Good to have a back-up treatment in the meantime!
