@LTD418:  That has never happened to me…have you been taking your pills everyday? If you miss a day or two sometimes you can spot. Was it a normal period?

Also just skip your period for your honeymoon week..start your next pack of active pills when you normally would take placebos. You might spot but if you have been on the pill a while it should work 🙂

@LTD418:  Thats really weird. And it was a normal period and not just spotting? Maybe give the doctor a call?

Um, it could be stress from the upcoming wedding.

I’ve been on BC for over 10 years.  I actually tri-cycle so I take 3 pill packs, have my period, rinse repeat.  Never had an early period, never had spotting, nothing.

Cue 3 days before my wedding and I start heavily spotting. Day of my wedding, very heavily spotting.  Day after my wedding, full on period.   I was in the middle of a pill pack, this should NOT have happened.

I was SO MAD, but clearly my stress messed up my hormones and wham, period happened.  Stress can do some crazy stuff to your body. I didn’t even think I was that stressed out, but clearly I was!

Talk to your doc if you are still concerned.

Could just be stress.

I did have breakthrough bleeding during the active pills but it was almost always because I missed 1 or 2.  But I might have had it a few times without missing any.  Breakthrough bleeding can be fairly common BCP I think.  I don’t think it necessarily means it will happen again next month though.

FWIW, I could not skip the placebo pills and just start a new pack.  I would have breakthrough bleeding no matter what.  So it wasn’t worth it to me.  But I would just try that and if it works it does.

What I did if this happened to me was to stop taking my active pills and just start a new pack once the bleeding stopped.  I tried to just keep taking the active pills but all it did was make me bleed really lightly, for longer.  But I would ask your Dr. before you do this because I don’t know how it affects pregnancy prevention.

It definitely could be stress. Not to pry or anything but there are two other reasons I can think of for the spotting – starting up a more intense exercise program(another form of stress but not always considered) and missing a pill or two then taking it during the week.

Just to share my experiences: I’ve been on the pill for 11 years and I’ve had this happen to me before. When I asked my gyno she told me if I missed 2 pills in a row then took them 1 each extra a day for the next 2 days it can cause spotting particularly if it’s in the 2nd or 3rd week of the cycle before your placebo/sugar pill week. I also had it happen when I started p90x for the first time a number of years ago, it scared me but putting my body under physical stress like that caused me to have spotting.

However, if you’re worried make an appointment it will most likely put your mind at ease to get an answer from a nurse or your doctor.

If this was your first time skipping the placebo pills and starting a new pack, it isn’t unusual to have a very light period or to spot for a few days.

When we’re talking light, are we talking about “Panty liner light” or “just lightly full red bleeding?”

@LTD418: Ugh yeah, I’m sure the stress of this is just icing on the cake if work is stressing you out. Sending good vibes your way, hoping you can get some peace soon!

@LTD418:  I was on Seasonale and started getting all sorts of spotting near the end of my pack. It was driving me crazy. I ended up just going off the pill and am trying the au natural birth control route with condoms for now and once I’m regulated following the book “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” for rules on natural birth control
