Hi Everyone!! So I am newley pregnant!! Yay!! After 2.5 years of trying, we finally concieved with the help of our RE and our first round of a medicated IUI cycle. I am still in disbelif! Well, my question is for other ladies who had help with a RE. Did they request multiple early ultrasounds? I just had my first one at 5 weeks, which only showed a tiny dot but still exciting. However, he wants to do an ultrasound weekly until he releases me about 11 weeks. Isn’t that exessive? And of course now i am worried because i read that having a lot of ultrasounds are linked to autism. Ugh, why do I research?? Has anyone else had a lot of ultrasounds or should i ask them to tone it down a bit? Thanks!!

I would only do what you’re comfortable with. It’s your body and your baby, no one can tell you any different. ♡

They’re perfectly safe. Millions of people have had frequent ultrasounds in early pregnancy with healthy babies, including myself.

There are a few studies out there that show some evidence of a correlation between early ultrasounds and an impact on neuronal migration, which is not the same thing as a cause-and-effect relationship to autism. ACOG actually does not recommend ultrasounds in early pregnancy except when medically necessary – but it does recommend them when it is.
You should talk to your doctor about your concerns and come to a decision about the right balance for you. Since you are using assitive technology, you have a greater medical need for them than the average uncomplicated pregnancy. At the same time, if you are concerned that weekly ultrasound is excessive you have every right to limit the amount of intervention to the bare minimum (which you might find mentally easier to deal with, too, as you go through the pregnancy!). You should also talk to your doctor about making sure the machine is properly calibrated and seeing that the tech is adhering to safe-level guidelines.
