I am in New York and we are bracing for up to more than a foot of snow and there is already a foot of snow in VA and DC and the storm is rolling up the coast. Flights are being cancelled for the whole day already up here. How is everyone on the east coast preparing and handling the snow!!
We are in RI and waiting for it too. They said up to 15 inches...
We love the snow though. We're not doing anything differently. I'm about to head out for my coffee and we're going to lunch in a bit for my son's birthday and then we'll just hang out and maybe even do some last minute shopping while the stores are emptied. So long as they don't close them early.
I live in VA and I'm SNOWED IN!! I have no food in the house either...aahhh!! At least I have the HIVE to keep me occupied!
Aw, sh!t! Is it really that bad? I guess I don't take these things too seriously because every time they say we are getting X inches of snow we get a dusting.
When you say snowed in, how much did you get? And why can't you get out? Are the roads not plowed?
I"m jealous!! I'm in Ohio and we got a measly inch. Supposed to snow all day but its only going to get to 2-4 inches. I love a good blizzard :)
I'm in Philly. We're supposed to get about 18 inches. I'm ridiculously behind in my wedding dress shopping. I was really counting on buying one today, but the stores have called to cancel on me. Closed due to snow :( Ugh.
The roads are being plowed, but I don't dare to drive in this weather!! The fi says that we got 9 inches! And I say snowed in, but not really in a bad way...just an excuse to not leave the house!!
Oh okay. Some people just don't like the snow. I've spent most of my life in the north east or in Chicago so I'm used to it. Hopefully most people will feel the same and I can get some shopping done.
Little Lulu, sorry the store closed and you can't shop for your dress. What a bummer!
YAY for East Coast snow storm. I am in Philadelphia and excited we will have snow on the ground for Xmas. Doesn't take much to get snowed in around here, it never snows much. They just upped the totals for my area for 15-25 inches!!!
@Daydreamer making international news? I wouldn't think it is that big of a deal. Its not like we have never seen snow and then dumped with 2 feet of snow! :) They are saying this could be the 2nd biggest snowfall on record for December!
Yippe, I love the white stuff.
Haha..thats funny you say that cause I was wondering that this morning!! haha!! I guess frozen will have to do!
I love snow! I wish I was on the East Coast right now. Like Corgi said, we've barely got an inch her in NE Ohio where I'm at.
We're in Philly and its nasty out there...i had to drive to work this morning...not fun! And were supposed to visit my MOH today out in Lancaster...about a 2 hr drive! If the roads are clear we might...hopefully. She is graduating from college tomorrow.
D.Marie, be careful. I am near Lancaster, right near the Morgantown exit on the Turnpike and we are getting it just as bad if not worse then Philadelphia!
Hey Megan,
Yeah I was just talking to my MOH...she told us not to try and come if we dont think its safe. Its really windy right now...Im at work and I have a big window infront of my desk!! It's crazy out there. If this is what its going to be like all day I can sadly say we will probably stay home. :( But we do have to drive up to get my fiance's kids after work...its my stepdaughter to be's birthday!! :) Be careful too Megan.
Good!! Its way to far of a drive to risk it. Remember us suburban people do not plow the areas.:)
By the way D.Marie, love your icon. I am looking for that as my cake topper!
I'm right across the Mason-Dixon line in the sticks, and I'm definitely going to be snowed in all day. Not a bad thing because MinMan is here too! :D I'll post pictures of the snow later for everyone!
It's a cold year this year! Even we're getting snow and we now have a better chance of a white Christmas than Moscow apparently! Bit bizarre. Although we're on a severe weather warning and we've not had snow all day - and looking outside the skies are blue!
I'm in South Jersey/Philly and my doggies are LOVING the weather!! I have a cup of hot cocoa in hand, and I'm ready to be snowed in!! I'm thinking of putting on a crock of soup!
FI is working today too...so guess who has to go shovel the driveway?? That's right...ME! Blech!
I'm in Richmond VA, and when I say snowed in, I mean, even though I live in the city, it's not a major road, and no, we have seen no plow, and we're not likely to see one until some time AFTER the snow STOPS. When we had the "major" storm last year - 8 inches - it took 36 hours from the time the snow stopped to see a plow at all. Public school kids were out for 4 days. I'm from new england, the problem is that they don't get snow often enough here to have the quantity of plows, salt trucks, sand trucks, etc to begin to be able to appropriately handle it. It's supposed to stop snowing tonight, but I bet public school will be cancelled this Monday at the very least :)
@Robin, I thought it was Xmas break for public schools. At least for my brother it is, he's in Dinwiddie. What bunk to have a snowstorm when you're on break.
According to the maps I've seen, the part of VA I'm in (Roanoke), is supposed to get the worst of it. I think they said 12-18"... I don't know if that's right.
Around 4.30p, I went to salt the driveway. ~4.40, my footprints were gone.
Around 5p, I salted/shoveled the driveway so BF could come in from work. A normal 25 minute drive took him TWO HOURS! :( Around 10pm, I didn't think I shoveled the driveway.
This morning, I don't know if I even have a driveway. I may have to exit my house through a window. :P
Maybe things are better on honeybun's side of town.
I'm in Philly and we are supposed to be getting a ton of snow. It's so pretty outside...I've missed the snow! I think I'm just going to be staying in all day and doing a whole lot of nothing....yay!
So jealous down here! It is freezing but no snow or even rain anymore! Though I don't really look forward to it snowing down here because people FREAK OUT!
FI has been trying to fly out of NC (flying into Detroit) since yesterday afternoon! He finally just got on the plane a few minutes ago. Unfortunately he will miss his connection in Detroit and will have to drive from Detroit to Akron, OH. Hopefully he'll get home around 5 today. Not. Happy.
Northeast Ohio has pretty much zero snow. Under an inch, probably. I've lived in Cleveland my whole life and while I'm "used" to snow, I absolutely HATE it. It's definitely ruined many many plans throughout my life (including numerous birthdays. I was born in February.) It hasn't even officially started, but I'm already ready for winter to be over.
@ Megan
Thanks! Yeah I think Ive seen them as cake toppers online. Thats actually my personal photo! I love going to downtown Philadelphia to all the historic sites and going shopping! We love the Philadelphia Flower Show...have you ever been?
There are some paperweights that I found that you could use but they are a little pricey @ $70!
I live in the Lehigh Valley of PA and haven't seen a single snowflake yet! I'm actually kindof disappointed about that too.
I keep looking on the weather radar and every area around us is getting something, but there's a snow-less hole on our area in the map.
We're supposidly going to get up to a foot and it should be starting any time now.
Megan I just found this: https://events.membersolutions.com/event_detail.asp?content_id=13050
sigh, the one thing i don't like about all this snow is i'm stuck at home without my sweetheart. hopefully the roads will clear by tomorrow so he can rescue me, haha.
We have 16 inches...a new record for December here! Totally snowed in...but as long as we don't lose power, I'm loving it!
I'm in nyc... and to prepare for today I bought snow boots with me to work so I dont have to slip around in my heels. I am not excited for that much snow though. But it will be a WHITE CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd rather the snow! I'm on the edge line of the storm and it's been raining for the past 36 hours... not snowing :-(
I live in western NC about 30 mins from Asheville and we got about 8 inches yesterday. Suppose to get more but it will probably be worse since the roads will refreeze. But I just couldn't believe how bright the sun was this morning. First time he has really woke me up and couldn't sleep back in from it.
D.Marie,
Thanks!!! Those things are pricey, but then again they are specialty items. I didn't realize that was your photo. I have always loved it because of why they so the O is sideways. Don't know if its true or not, but love the reasoning! I wonder if Fairmount park actually has a souvenir shop I can stop in. The last link will cost $80 cause there is a 10.50 fee, just because.
I haven't been to the flower show in years, I used to go all the time. Is that the part of Philly you are in, downtown? We just moved out of NE Philly.
