Well, first off, congratulations on your engagement.  I’m a CT bride too.  Branford House is absolutely gorgeous.  I don’t know too much about Eastern CT in terms of vendors (I’m in Milford).

 Did you check out CTWeddingReports.com?  Also, if you are looking a photographer, I highly recommend RedPhotography.  http://www.redphotography.us  She works out of Old Saybrook and has a great style (and is a total sweetheart and very easy to work with).

 People are always going to be able to find something to nit pick at with any reception location.  All that matters is that it makes YOU and your FH happy.

Congratulations!!! I just got engaged about a month ago and I am soooo excited. I am from Montville, and we live in New London…I know a little bit about places around us…We have alreay booked a photographer because we could not refuse the price. This guys name is Peter Black and his business is called Weddingbells Photography and he is out of Old Lyme. We got a package for our wedding that was such a great price. I dont know what your budget is, but my future inlaws are paying…The total was $1975 for his services. Services include, engagement photo shoot, rehearsal dinner photos, day of the wedding photos, which there is no time limit, he is there from the moment you wake up until the moment you take off the dress if you want him to be. It also includes the wedding video, the video is not the main focus of his business though, he puts them on tripods for the ceremony and then at the reception he said that he will even give them to some of your guests if they are feeling ambitious. It also includes the edited movie, unedited version, 400 prints of the pics (any 400 you want). 2 beautiful albums, and the c.d’s and copyrights to all pics…we thought it was the best deal out there. Our wedding is in 2011, and we still booked and he locked in that price for us. We saw his porftfolio and his pics were great.

As for caterers, I have been recommended a few, our wedding reception is going to be outside so we are having it catered)…I have heard of Hamilton Market in New London, I actually had some of there food at a family party, it was pretty good. Theres also a place in Bozrah called Catering to You I think…and check around at grocery stores to, my best friend just got married and the grocery store that her mom works at catered her wedding, the food wasnt that bad and it only cost about $500 for the whole thing and that was with a steamship round, for 70 people. there is tons of options.

Good luck with the process…its gonna be a lot of work….best wishes.

Congrats!! I can’t believe I only stumbled upon this posting now. I am also a Brandford House bride!

I also found that post and messaged the bride to find out more, because like you I started to freak. She got back to me pretty quickly and said there was an unauthorized delivery of rental equipment for another wedding into the space. She didn’t really go into detail, just said to know who will be on staff on the day of my wedding. After reading her response I started to relax a bit, because we have hired Coastal Gourment as our caterer and event planner. They are handling all of the rentals and will be onsight way before we even show up.

Other than the caterer and the location we haven’t booked anything else. I have just begun starting to look into photographers and djs, which is way I am now going through all the posts on the board haha.

Yes, it helps when they have worked at the place before.  I spoke with just about every caterer in that area so if you have an questions, don’t hesitate to ask. We choice Coastal Gourmet because we clicked instantly with them, which since they also act as the event coordinator that is extremely important.

 Good luck with your other vendors, I’d be interested in hearing who you choose!

Wow, that is too bad about your experience. I had heard great things about them too, but they were not as responsive as Coastal Gourmet which was important since I live about 50 minutes away.

Well I’m glad your meeting with CG went well, and I hope the proposal comes in how you want. Just an FYI, when ours first came in, it was a bit higher than I would have liked. I mentioned this and they were beyond helpful in finding a way to bring it down without losing too much. Within a day I had a new proposal. So when they say they will work with you they really do.

Coastal Gourmet is doing my wedding in two weeks – so far everything has been very smooth… they have been creative with my budget and have made sure to get in what was most important to me.   I’m getting my flowers from the Stop & Shop in Groton.  The florist, Deb, has been there for 22 years and does a wonderful job.  She did my sister’s wedding last year and everything was gorgeous… Best of all, it is VERY reasonable (gave me some extras $$ for premium liquor and a raw bar)…   As for DJ, it depends on what end of the spectrum your wedding budget is.  The most popular DJ in the area is Power Posse (very pricey).  My sister and a friend used Chameleon Sound (http://www.chameleonmusicdj.com/References.html).  Gerard is great! Very personable and much more reasonable. His music selection is great – I don’t think I sat down at either of the weddings he did.  Unfortunately, he was already booked for my wedding.  I’m using Rockin’ Rollin – he was referred to me by Chamelon Sound – I can let you know in two weeks how it goes 🙂

I am from Mystic – if you have any questions, please let me know…

@Kittyachi:

Didn’t know if you were still looking for a cake decorator, florist, or someone to help with set up for you wedding day, but if you are…

I just moved to the area and am working from home so I can stay home with my son. I have portfolios you can look through and my prices are very good considering I am able to work from home 🙂

I live right by Groton.
