I would say that if choosing colors is difficult for you, choose the venue first, then you can see what colors will go nicely with the existing decor of your space.
If you need more narrowing down than that think of which clothing colors suit yourself and your groom.
I like 'the closet test' if you're stumped....what color are most of your clothes? It's rather likely that they flatter you and that you enjoy those colors. See if they work with your venue, and then go crazy :-)

I've seen a couple of posts recently where brides have been struggling with picking their colors. I made it really easy: my favorite color, orange, and his favorite color, green. (going with brights vs. darks- saw it a couple times at an Expo this weekend, and this combo looks really good together) Since those are tough colors for most people to pull off, my matrons of honor are going to be wearing charcoal grey, which complements both.
So if you're having trouble making this decision, just pick your favorites, and it's done! :)
