Ok first baby with an estimated due date of Jan 24th. My mom and little sister she’s (15) are throwing the shower, but basically that means…I’m doing most of the planning, bc events are just my thing and not my moms lol.
Anyway we are going to have the shower at my house bc it’s quite frankly the best venue we have a lot of space and room for some out of town family to just stay with us.
So my question is what would a good day/time frame to have the shower be? I have a few factors to consider that wouldn’t be if not for my time frame. Where I live we typically get our first snow by the end of October, now there is no guarantee on that, but it’s pretty average. Once that first snow comes you could get a big snow storm at any time, but we typically only have 1 or 2 real doozies a year and typically they are more into Jan/Feb. But I am nervous about guests not being able to make it or getting snowbound on the way as guests would be coming from many places.
Also I don’t want it to be uncomfortably close to thanksgiving or christmas bc I know people are super busy at those times and I don’t want my shower to be a stressful thing they are trying to cram in. =/
Also Nov 23 is my moms bday that’s a no go IMO
I know it’s too late to do anything this month..
But I put every weekend between November 1st and the due date down as an option.

I voted Dec. 7. I would not be comfortable waiting til January, and anytime after Dec. 14 is too close to Christmas. BUT… lots of other people/events try to cram in activities and events in the early weekends of December to avoid the holidays, so everyone is extra busy those weekends. Perhaps early/mid November isn’t too bad.

@ames12708: I’m due Jan 21st and I’m hoping to have my shower sometime in November. I feel like December will be too far along. Mid to late November is probably best if invitations haven’t been sent out yet. I voted for the 16th, but the 30th is my second choice since you don’t want the 23rd. 🙂

The showers that I have been to are always on Sundays. What about Nov 17th or Nov 24th?

I’d do November – with Christmas coming up in December lots of people will already have committments – time and financial. We are due Nov 20 and I had my first shower Sept 28 (Saturday), second on Oct 6 (Sunday and the day after my mom’s bday) and have a small family shower this coming Sat Oct 12. I think Saturday showers are great – you get the rest of the weekend to play with all the stuff and teh guests still get to enjoy the rest of their weekends too! If you can swing it, i’d pick any of the weekends (Saturdays or Sundays) in November. 🙂

@ames12708: I agree that the first week or two in December should be perfect. You’ll be early enough that you have a cute belly but you won’t be so far along that you’re miserable and uncomfortable (yep, that’s coming.)

Thanks for all the feedback ladies, I just love the bee =]
@beachbride1216: haha yeah I know I already have a pretty serious bump, my mom is dumbfounded bc she thought I would be just like her, (we have an identical body type lol) she didn’t show at all with me her 1st until 8months. And I’ve only gained 3lbs so she’s very confused by it lol. But anyway yeah I wouldn’t want to wait that long personally either bc I’m already so bumbling, plus I feel like that’s cutting it too close.

@ames12708: My SIL was due on Valentines Day, had her shower on November 3rd to avoid holidays and ended up having my niece on Jan 3rd. Now, obviously it’s not common to go into labor early like she did… but I would say early to mid November is best.

I guess it all depends on your circumstances. I am due on the 24th too! Yay! and I am having three showers.
November 2- In Illinois with my husband’s family (we chose this date for availability, not too close to holidays and still at a very safe time to fly in my pregancy)
November 30th- In Houston- Saturday after Thanksgiving because I will already be in town visiting my family for the holiday.
December 14th- Dallas (local) My third and final with my local friends and family. We chose this date because it is the most convenient to the people I want to be there.
All that being said we dont worry about snow in Texas. It usually comes in once or twice a year in Dallas but it is no blizzard and wont hinder anyone’s travels. I am sure whatever date you decide, your shower will be wonderful!

I’m due Jan 29th & made it very clear to my sister that it HAS to be before Nov 30th. I have final exams in Dec & the holidays would really get in the way. So I voted Nov 16th for you 🙂

I said Nov 30th cause it’s far enough out from Christmas. But really anytime in November or even first week of December 🙂

I’m also due on January 24th and my shower is on November 24th which is a Sunday (we have a lot of church ppl who will be attending too but it’s in the afternoon so it doesn’t really matter). I think any weekend in November would be a good time to have your shower. December is usually a very busy time for people and you don’t want to leave it until January because that’s cutting it too close!

I’m due January 10th and my shower is November 2nd. We wanted to avoid all of the holiday activities/parties/vacations. I know by mid November I typically dont have a free weekend until the new year…

@ames12708: I voted Nov 16 (if you get invitations out in the mail w/in the next week or so) that way people have 4 weeks notice. My BFF is due Feb 13 and is having her shower Dec 1. I’d say the sooner the better that way you’ll be able to go thru presents, send out thank yous & know what stuff you still need for baby.
