We are doing raspberry jam. I will be helping a relative (she is the pro) with it.
I don't really care that it isn't super original. It is tasty, people will consume it and it isn't some random monogrammed knick-knack they will toss.
truffles freeze well and are fun and easy to make!
You could make homemade soup. My mom made some olive oil strawberry soap recently and its awesome!
You could make flavored olive oil with its own label.
My mom made alcohol as favors for my shower. It was a huge hit.

We are using a famiy cookie recipe and giving everyone 2 cookies. My mom is baking a bunch today and just freezing them until the day before the wedding.
I like the cookie idea. If you wanted to do something a little fancy, you could do sugar cookies, decorated with hardening frosting, in a glassine bag with a bow.
@SarahSmilesDec28: The jam was a HUGE hit at my friend's wedding! And I definitely agree with you about random knick knacks.
How about something that you and your husband like? Something that is part of your relationship?Like we made our own homebrews because that's something him and I started doing together. And we love microbrews.
Or I like it when I see mason jars with the ingredients for cookies or brownies then the TY tag has baking instructions.
Or something seasonal related?
Or local to where you live or met?
We did cakeballs and they were a huge hit. Most people ate them before they left and the extras were scooped up by those who had already eaten theirs. I have been asked so many times for the recipe for them that I am just going to put it on FB.
We are having a rustic chic themed fall wedding, and we just finished canning peach butter for our favors. These don't have the tags and cute ties yet, but here is a picture! It was very affordable and fairly easy (just a little time consuming).

LOVE it! I heard of peach butter for the first time this past month. What a cute unique idea! Is it common in the south?
Apple butter is much more common, but peach is FI favorite, so we went with that instead. It is SO GOOD, and so easy!!! Just 4 ingredients. I had actually never had it before we made it.
Here is the recipe if you want to try it - http://www.food.com/recipe/Peach-Butter-96986
A couple of ideas from recent weddings I've been to: candy apples or truffles!
We are doing chocolate covered pretzels and using them as escort cards.

I am getting married in November so I am planning on doing caramel apples. I think we can make them a little bit in advance and they go with the fall season.
@cleve_girl01: I make these in assorted flavors for xmas presents for people at work a lot of times. I love them.
I didn't make them myself, but ordered them from a person on Etsy who shipped them in cold packs the week of the wedding. They were delish but I'm not sure how long they stay fresh or if they could be frozen.

I made jam and decorated the jars like 5 months in advance. If you make something you can can, you can go big and get it out of the way well before crunch time.
Something savory...salsa, spaghetti sauce, chutney, or pickles would be interesting alternatives. What are your colors/theme/vibe?
I've been messing around with homemade syrups which are fun and pretty, but people will be more confused about what to do with them.
Stuff that doesn't have a lot of sugar or acid and has to be canned in a pressure cooker scares me too much!
I'm an avid baker as well....everyone pretty much expects me to bake any time their is a family function or get together with friends (i'm happy to do it!). I'm thinking about doing chocolate covered pretzels just because i could do super cute packaging and they will last a decent amount of time. My other idea is s'mores sticks (chocolate covered marshmallow on a stick coated in graham crackers crumbs) because those are always a huge hit and i can do them in advance as well. The FI is planning on making hot sauce so we are going to do a sweet/spicy combo and come up with a cute saying about life being sweet and keeping it spiced up (need to work that out--suggestions welcome!). Cookies freeze very well...you could do sugar cookies with pretty icing decorations. I have a friend who went to a wedding where each guest got a mini pie with their table # baked in to the top--i would LOVE to do something like that if I was only having around 20 people at the wedding!

Hello bees,
Does anyone have ideas for homemade edible wedding favors that can be made in advance? I love cooking/baking (which is a well-known fact amongst family and friends), so I really want to make something for the wedding. I think attempting to bake hundreds of something at the last minute would be a disaster, though! I helped a friend make jam for her wedding last year, which was awesome - we just made a batch at a time over a couple of months - and it turned out delicious. I am considering doing jam also, but it would be fun to do something different!
