Come on out! Let’s share ideas!
Come on out! Let’s share ideas!
I am close to Edmonton, out in Red Deer area! 🙂
Im up North, but most everything dress and suit related is done through Edmonton (getting married back in NS)
Ok, Local ladies, I know I have a while until the Big Day, but I want to start dress shopping now so I can really take my time.
Are there any stores I should avoid? Are there any really good ones you can recommend?
I’m an Edmonton bride! My SIL told me to avoid Sposbella for dresses (sp?) — it’s in WEM, I think.
What venue have you chosen?? We can’t decide on one, especially since we’re on a budget…
I’ve heard that too. Apparently, that whole phase of West Ed is to be avoided.
We picked the Palace (on Parsons Rd/99 St.) for dinner. It’s one of the few places that can hold as many people as we need without charging an arm and a leg. Still working on everything else…
Hey ladies! I am trying on dresses for the first time tomorrow at Bridal Debut in Sherwood Park, ABC Bridal by NAIT, and Novelle Bridal west of downtown. I will let you know how that goes and whether they are worth checking out!
I’d love to hear all reviews and suggestions on places too! I’m heading out in the coming weeks to start looking… 🙂
I live in Edmonton but will be moving to Vancouver (and getting married there) next year.
@dance : How did dress shopping go for you?
Dress shopping is SO much fun! I have a few very strong contenders for dresses, but some are fading in my mind – I tried on over 30 dresses! As for how each place was:
Bridal Debut in Sherwood Park – fantastic! I had a wonderful consultant (Janice) who explained how the whole process works and about alterations and storing your dress and such. We got through about 13 dresses in an hour an a half and in the last few minutes she was still getting me into dresses until she was notified her next appointment had arrived. They also had a great selection and have a huge sample sale coming up on July 11 – though they can sell you some of those samples at their sale price as of now if you go in and want to buy it. I am actually going back to re-try a few dresses on and try a few more this weekend. I requested Janice again because she was just so fantastic.
ABC Bridal – meh. I picked some dresses to try and the lady asked if I wanted her to help me…uh YEAH. Isn’t that your job? She was nice and all, but the samples were not in as good condition as the other places and nothing really jumped out at me there. They do have tons of stuff for wedding rentals though – in terms of table covers and chair covers and decorations and invitation stuff, so perhaps I will go back to check that out later.
Novelle Bridal – very nice and intimate! Only two brides at once max, and most of the time it was just me! Not a huge selection but they have a good variety. They also carry a few designers that are exclusive to their shop. Of course, one of my front runners for dresses at this point is one of those exclusive designers haha.
So all in all..GREAT day! Now I am conflicted about dresses though and just want to try more and more! Haha!
Yeah, I’ve heard really good things about Bridal Debut from several different sources. I think that’ll be my next stop!
Dress Shopping: Round 2 commenced this past weekend.
Bridal House – nice and big, lots of selection and a variety of designers, the staff were very nice. I actually found what I thought was “the dress” – it is a new Paloma Blanca design but it was more than I was wanting to spend. I didn’t buy it because I had another appointment at Bridal Debut that afternoon so I wanted to double check with a few of my faves from the week before.
Bridal Debut – 2nd time. Again, great experience. The dress from last week was a “no”, which started to make me more sure of the Paloma from Bridal House. AND THEN. I FOUND HER. Jenna by Maggie Sottero. So happy 🙂 I am going back one more time to try her on with one of my BM’s who couldn’t come this weekend and will put down my deposit! Weeeeeeeee!
@Nezbitt: It is definitely worth checking out Bridal Debut! They have a great selection and are pretty reasonable cost-wise. If you are planning to make an appointment and are going on either a Thurs evening or Saturday at the Sherwood Park location – ask for Janice to be your consultant. She was great! They are also having a sample sale on July 11 and there is going to be a Maggie trunk show coming – I think at the end of July or early August – if you are interested.
I’m another Edmonton bride, although our wedding is in Kelowna, BC. I got my dress from Career Girl Bridal (looks gross from the outside, but tons of dresses under $1K, and gorgeous ones to boot!)
I got the Mori Lee 2182. I’m soooo excited.
Hey ladies! Just to let you all know…Bridal Fantasy is coming to town on Sunday, September 19! I am so there – hopefully I win some sweet stuff! Haha…might be a good place to check out some vendors too! Here is the website if you want to know more:
