remember to breathe...that will keep the giddiness down a little (i had that problem, i was totally SQUEEEEEE! the whole time)
figure out what stores you want to go to before you set out
try on things you might not think you initially like--it might look great on your hand!
and ENJOY THE MOMENT :) it can be really romantic if you make it an experience for both of you!
Yes definately be willing to try on things you wouldn't expect that you like. You will be surprised. And always let your man have an opinion about each one....it is his choice as well.
And some jewelers like to be pushy...don't let them. If you know you aren't there to buy that day...tell them.
Know your budget (or make sure FI tells the jeweler your budget) and stick to it. Don't want to fall in love with a setting/stone that is out of your price range!
And I agree with the other ladies, as long as it is in your price range, try on everything you can!
Yes, figure out type of styles you anticipate that you will like the most and start there. Also, set a price point, because that can get away from you while you are goggly eyed with all the sparklies. Decide if you are looking for quality diamonds or for size. That's up to you. Another tip is to ask the jewelry how they do upgrades. Some people will only honor a portion of your purchase price of the diamond (like only 60% for upgrades) and some do it for 100% of the purchase price. Our jeweler will let us redeem the ring for 100% of the purchase prices because we bought a diamond was that high quality enough for him to take back. It's a little perk!
Thanks for the advice ladies!!! I'll make sure he lets them know the budget and I'll be willing to try something on that I might not have tried otherwise!
Oh my gosh I'm SOOOOOO excited!!!!!!! I feel like I've been waiting for this for SO long!!!!!!!!

how exciting!!! ring shopping is way fun. the first time i went, i felt so out of my element. i didn't know much about diamonds and the four C's... i felt like a little girl going into the grown-up store. i half expected them to say "um, little girl, go back to Claire's!"
but after shaking off that feeling, and getting myself up to speed on the four C's, it all became really, really fun.
you will have a blast!!! try on all kinds, see what you like, and just have a blast with your man!
@MissPumpkinPenguin: I totally know what you mean about the Claire's comment!!! I have a feeling I'll feel that way for a little while at the beginning. I just don't know why I feel so "young"...it's not like I'm a spring chicken! HA!
Well ladies I have to say a HUGE THANK YOU! I took your advice to try something on that I wouldn't generally try. It's TOTALLY different from what I set out to find and I'm in LOVE!!! I'm going back this week to pick out a center stone then they might have it done by the time I leave for my trip next weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm SOOOOOOOO excited!!!! No pictures yet but I'll upload one as soon as I get one! :D
