I think the eggplant dresses will look fantastic with your bright color accents - the contrast will make everything "pop". Also even though the eggplant is a darker color, with your accents it will still look bright & summery.
I am having a June wedding and my bridesmaids are wearing an eggplant color. I think it is about making things light and airy rather than light in color. My bm dresses are tea length so that helps but there are other ways of achieving that look. I think with your table setup the eggplant of the dresses is going to pop that much more.
I've always liked the look of purples and yellows together. The two colours are complementary and they just "pop" (wow, this is a popular descriptor here) against one another. Although in large amounts, they may look odd in fashion, but with one as an accent, they'll work together very well. I think whites and green-yellows would also serve as lovely highlights with eggplant.
I agree with jennred72 that it's probably more about the style of the dresses rather than the colour. As long as your bridesmaids don't look like they're sweltering, I personally don't think dark colours would be out of place for a summer wedding.
The purple and yellow are complementary colors on the color wheel, so I think it will look great! Plus it will be so fun and happy.
LOL I thought this post would be about food...
But I love your eggplant/citron play! It's original, and looks fantastic! Plus it'll make your white dress pop. I say go for it!
oh, i love it!!! my only color right now is yellow & after seeing your yellows against the eggplant i'm considering using a dark color to highlight the yellow even more. i think it's just amazing! it's so difficult to find something original these days...but i've never seen something like this & think it is fabulous!
I like the eggplant/citron combo. I'm also using eggplant for my October wedding. What bm dresses did you go with?
i thought it was about food too! i was about to say i love eggplant by DH doesn't.
i think that would look great!
woot woot! thank you ladies. I feel so-ho-ho-ho much better about it now.
@azwinelover - I went with the Alfred Angelo 7002 dress in grape. It's a tea length dress.
I've attached the picture of it on a real person (in red.) I don't have the dress (in the right color) yet. But it will be very close to the one posted above.
I was going to write - Mrs. Eggplant, the Bee, is awesome! The food? Not so much! Haha...
Anyway - I think the dresses and colors that you have picked out are beautiful!!
We're having an August wedding and the girls are wearing eggplant dresses too. Is your wedding in the evening?
My girls are wearing eggplantish dresses in my july wedding. I think it is such a romantic color. You have a great eye...the yellow will look fantastic with the eggplant!
I love eggplant with bright yellow! Wonderful choice! I don't think it will be too dark at all. :)
I think it will look great! I really wanted to do eggplant, but couldn't find the right dress in that color.
I think it'll be graet if you keep the light and summary main colors and leave eggplant as an accent (dresses and a few other things)
It's a gorgeous color paired with bright and lights!
I love the dark and light contrast. I think you should definetly go with the eggplant (just don't drape everything in really HEAVY eggplant colored drop cloth or something :) )
Ha ha, ditto Miss Quiche - I was like, what do I think of Mrs Eggplant? Um, she RAWKS, duh.
As for your eggplant color scheme, it's gorgeous. No it's not too dark for June at all - the lightness of everything else makes it work. It will be incredibly lovely!
Our wedding is on June 13th and our colors are dark purple/eggplant/lapis and apple green! The BMs' dresses are lapis (read: David's Bridal's dark purple) and we are doing ivory table linens because we are afraid dark table cloths will look too much that a graduation open house. Plus, our venue is really plain so we are having very dim lighting (so no one can tell lol).
BTW, the only reason I don't recommend purple with yellow is because my high school colors were purple and gold and we are getting married only 20 miles away from my alma mater.
I love any BM dress color that isn't really bright or easter-eggy and I think eggplant is beautiful! IMHO, BM dresses that aren't a neutral or pseudo neutral give the effect that your BMs are all in a dance troupe or something. While eggplant wouldn't really be considered a neutral, it is dark, so it blends in and makes things like accessories and flowers pop! Tell your dad, thanks for the input, but it is too late to change that color (and you love it, anyway).
Wow, I was curious about this post because I have the same color scheme, except I am going with more of a moss green with tons of white flowers and bright greens mixed in. Then I scrolled down and realized that we have chosen not only the exact same bridesmaid dress, but in the exact same color! I picked some of them up this past weekend and we started looking for Mother's dresses. We have decided that the "fern" color from David's bridal looks the best. I have attached the picture so you can see...the green from the dress and the eggplant from the bridesmaids dress look a little lighter in my picture but are darker in person. On the left is the actual bridesmaids dress laid out. I was afraid it would look too "mardi gras" but I think it compliments well...

Hi bees,
My wedding is in June and I just ordered the bm dresses in an eggplant/grape color.
I'm starting to meet with the linen people and the coordinator loves the eggplant color. My dad thinks its too dark.
My original idea was eggplant with accents of citron-green OR marigold, with whites, ivory and champagne mixed in there. I want a modern chic wedding.
I want to believe it's ok but before I make any more final, expensive decisions, I wanted to know the Hive's opinion.
Are the eggplant bm dresses too dark for a June wedding? Would they clash too much with the bright accents of everything else? Granted I already ordered them, but they were inexpensive so I potentially could find others before it's too late.
(FYI - My table would look something like ivory tablecloth, gold chivari chairs, citron napkins, with some type of bright (whites, yellows, etc) floral arrangement in the center. I've attached pictures to give you an general idea of both the tables and the color and style of the dresses...)
