While I don't love the black shoe idea, if they like it then go for it. My suggestion is metallics! Not silver though - gold/copper/bronze would look fantastic!
We're doing eggplant dresses as well, and I'm letting my bridesmaids choose whatever shoes they want. I'm OK with black, silver, gold, or purple. First of all, if it's a floor-length dress, practically no one will see the shoes, so I don't care. If it's a tea-length dress, then I think any of those colors would work. In the Ann Taylor ads with the new purple dresses (like the one on the left side of all the WB pages), the girls are wearing silver strappy sandals and I think they look cute. I'm also letting the girls choose whatever style of dress they want in eggplant (from one designer), so I'm not worried about everyone being matchy-matchy. In a vacuum, I think gold would look best with eggplant, but our wedding is more silver than gold, so I think silver shoes would work better. Someone else suggested fun colors, which could work great as well -- pink or green would be great.
Btw, those of you using eggplant -- where/who are your dresses from? We're probably using Mori Lee.
