I did purchase last year’s yearbook when my daughter was in PreK. She is now in K. I am getting another yearbook order form. Do you all do this every year? I don’t remember doing this every year and I only purchased one when I was graduating that school. Any thoughts?

I have one from at least every other year. I didn’t buy any in high school but luckily FI did so we still have every year! I think it’s something neat to look back on and every kid in elementary had their friends sign their book on the last day of class, we had a special signing party, so I would have been really upset if I didn’t have one then.

My school had them every year. I didn’t get one every year (because my family was broke), but I always wanted one!

We just had class pictures, as did my mom, and my son. No way I would buy a yearbook for every year. That seems like a PTA thing to me.

We never had to buy them in elementary school, I’m pretty sure they came with our school photos or something. They were pretty cheap though, and I grew up in a pretty blue collar area so I think in elementary school a lot of our parents wouldn’t have bought them if they were expensive. Now, I would probably buy one for my kiddo if I had to because they’ll end up losing most of them, but they sure are fun to look back on when they grow up. Also, like a PP, it was a big deal to sign each other’s yearbooks with messages and I definitely spent hours going through and re-reading the messages and looking at people.
I also bought them in middle school when they were like $20. I definitely did not buy any in high school though. They were like $50 or more and my parents wouldn’t have paid for something like that. I couldn’t justify spending money from my tiny Dairy Queen paychecks on it so I just didn’t. If I could do it over again, I would have bought one my Freshman year and one my Senior year. It would have been a cool thing to look at with my kids and friends later. I know I definitely looked at my mom and Dad’s with them when I was little and thought it was super cool to see what they looked like as teenagers.

@hegetsme: I remember getting one every year when I was in elementary school, but it was a crappy paperback black and white thing that was like $12.

I buy my daughter her class picture every year, but I refuse to buy the year book until her last year in elementary (5th grade here). I will buy them for every year of high school.

My parents bought me school/class pictures and yearbooks every year. I’m so thankful that they did. We will be buying a yearbook every year for our kids.

Yes. We had them every year and it was nice to have. I do not think I have one for every year, but almost every year. Classes and teachers change year by year.

I buy them for my kids every year. They have time devoted to signing each others year books at the end of the school year. It is something they want and I’m happy to be able to give it to them. In elementary and middle, they aren’t overly expensive yet. I think they will be glad to have them to look back on someday.

We had them every year, all the way through high school. I got one every year. One of the best times of the year was yearbook time when you’d go around and everyone would sign each other’s books.

I had one every year, so I guess it sounds normal to me.

hegetsme: We didn’t have them till I was in high school.
Kids are doing other school related things younger and younger, so it doesn’t surprise me.
Having a formal graduation from Pre-K, K, Grade 1 etc is just ridiculous, yearbooks too.

I had one every year growing up and recently got rid of almost all of them. I think I kept a few, maybe 1st, 6th and senior. The high school year books are insanely thick and expensive and I didnt have anywhere to store them!
Im not sure if Ill buy one for my future kid(s) every year. Its such a waste of money….but the yearbook signing days were so fun!

I only had one for Elementary School for my final year and I think it was only for our “graduating class” not the whole school.
I did get one every year for middle & high school.
