we’re eloping and getting married June 23rd and no one is invited to our wedding.. no one

we’re flying to Uepi island in the Solomans and will be mailing out 185 "message in a bottles" telling people we have eloped the day we fly out

3 months after we come back were going to have a catered party at home for about 150 people (all his side btw)

we dont want gifts either so plan on lettinig his mother pass the word thru the family grapevine

as far as your potluck idea… maybe you can theme it in your invitations. ask people to bring something and get them to write the recipe down for you. maybe include a recipe card in the invites so they are all the same for you to file in a box

goodluck!  we made the decision very quickly to just do it and it made us both feel fabulous because all the pressure was off

I don’t think this is unreasonable at all.  I think if you elope but never have a ceremony your friends will miss out on the opportunity to celebrate with you which I think is a bummer for all.

I grew up in a military community overseas and many of our friends would fly back to the states to have a ceremony with family back home.  When they got back we would have a big potluck reception for them (the bride would even wear her dress for us!) and there was dancing and great fun.  I would have been so sad to not be able to celebrate with my friends-a marriage can mean so much to a community!

I think you should go for it!  It can be so much fun and is much less stressful (well-if you make sure you let it!)  Good Luck!
