My fiancee and I are both single parents on a limited budget–we are thinking we would rather spend a vacation together and get married during that time then do the wedding hoopla. Date is tentatively set for February 18th…does anyone have recommendations for reputable websites to assist, locations to go to? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

@futuremrslibby:I don’t have any recommendations but have to give you kudos for eloping. Fi and I totally want to elope but familial pressure is too strong–we cannot resist it!
I’d probably select where you want to go first and then go from there. Pick a place and then find a courthouse. Find out the local marriage laws. Browse the internet for a pretty place and an officiant. Maybe hire a photog for a few hours. We wanted to go to San Fransisco or Hawaii, so I recommend those places. 😀

There are companies that actually help you plan an elopement out of the country. I imagine that it would probably be easiest to either stay in the US for it (Key West is warm in February!) or go some place that does weddings all the time, like the Sandals resorts or something. Those places are like one-stop shopping. You could probably elope in Disney World, too. The kids might love that! 🙂 Or do a cruise. Friends of ours eloped on a Caribbean Cruise and were married by the ship’s captian.

@lovekiss: Me and my fiancee are British but are eloping in September to San Francisco- we haven’t been before but it looks beautiful. The architecture in the city hall looks stunning. Good luck! I hope you find the right location! We’re booking through Kuoni and they seem really helpful.

@Maye15: Just a thought- we’re going to Disneyland in California too while we’re there. Your kids would probably love that too!
