I’m in Houston as well…

When you say elope… does that mean you won’t be having any guests at all? Or how many would you be expecting? And are you expecting to have a reception or dinner or anything?

A venue for under $150? I hate to say it, but that isn’t going to happen. All venues are either going to be a) the rental cost is over $150 or b) the food/eb minimum is more than $150.

It looks like you guys have a gorgeous restored historic courthouse.

Inside Downtown’s Brand-New 1910 Courthouse

What if you guys got a pro photographer and just headed up there, if our courthouse here in Austin were nearly as pretty I’d totally do it!

Chapel Dulcinea in Austin is nice, also, I would check out facilities in Fredericksburg, Dripping Springs and Wimberly.

Also, a google search yielded this site… maybe it will be of some help?  I noticed that a lot of the B&Bs that came up offered elopement packages, complete with officiant, champagne toast, etc.

We are getting married in Dripping Springs and I absolutely LOVE it out there. The hill country is just gorgeous! I’ve read somewhere on here that Chapel Dulcinea is pretty booked… I guess it would just depend on what day of the week you’re looking at.

You also said that you wanted it within 2 hours of Houston? Austin is close to 3?

I would also definitely recommend looking at somewhere in Gruene. It is such a beautiful little town right by the river.

The Gristmill restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! Take a look at their website… It has that “barn” feel to it… I guess it technically is a barn haha.

@sillyquirky:  +1

I second this. I eloped at Chapel Dulcinea and it was wonderful. The venue is free (unless you donate your deposit money).

@GFerg:  had a friend marry there and saw alot of pics of other weddings. the deal is great thru the officiant/photograoher. I think its $350 for unlimited pics in that 1-2 hr. the site is really pretty and like you said free. I have not seen it in person though and not sure what the scenery is at this time of the year. the plants dead?

@sillyquirky:  Usually everything in Austin stays alive during the entire year since the winters there are so mild, and from what I remember, the plants are usually native type. I’d think it would be ok! The views are incredible!

We didn’t use the photographers recommended by the chapel. We hired Tara Welch (she’s out of Austin) and really loved her! We had her for 2 hours and it was the best $500 I have ever spent! 🙂

I did see your photos and LOVE them. what a great price on the 2 hrs 🙂 I would have had to email her to find out prices. the chapel is only open one day around thanksgiving tho at 8:30 am. not a time I want to get married. gah, so early! but I would really love to pull it all together and get married in 2 weeks.

I have lived in Austin before and most of the plants and grass are dead from Jan to March, then it comes back in full swing. you can also swim till Nov i think. the water at zilker was cold but oh so pretty and fun.

I have to bump this cause we decided to elope in Austin in 12 days. we need to know what the foliage is like there right now, and we need a pretty spot outside to do our cermony. Chapel is booked (unless you want a wedding at 8:30 am- no thank you) perhaps will will do zilker park over the water. great spots for pictures. I would really love some pics on a beach. how far is the closest one?

Wow, the chapel has added several time slots that they didn’t used to have! We got married there at 9am. It wasn’t so bad! In fact, it was nice because we had breakfast at the hotel, went over and got hitched. Super easy! Then we had plenty of time for pix. Though we chose 9am because it was July and any time later than that it would have  been too hot.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving has several times available:

Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 8:30am

Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 10:30am

Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 1:30pm

that was nice of you to look it up! since we fly in on Friday, we cannot marry till Saturday per state law (3 day wait) so we are going to do is that day or Sun. I think we chose sunday since we had a photog and officiant all clear for that day. Im not sure how far Chapel is from Zilker, but I wanted to get the majority of the pictures there. they have train tracks, water, tons of trains, an open field, a bridge and most importantly a gorgeous backdrop of the city.
