I tried this. I wanted to go to Vegas, have a small, but traditional church wedding in Henderson, and then go celebrate on the strip and enjoy the night as newly weds. I thought what a better way to celebrate then to go to Vegas with our nearest and dearest and have fun.

I was shot down. My FI did not think Vegas was romantic or that people would “believe” our wedding was real. I tried and tried giving him the traditional side, no Elvis, no strip wedding, no drive through chapel, but he just wouldn’t go for it!

Good luck with it! I still wish I could have my Vegas wedding.

@renwoman:  oh I didn’t get it =( I lost that battle. He was so passionate about not having it in Vegas I just gave in. Good luck!

There are some great, affordable elopement and small wedding packages in Napa Valley. It’s only about 6 hours away from you, as you probably know.

Just to get an idea of what I’m talking about, go to YouTube and type in “Hans Fahden wedding or elopement”. Several videos featuring photography by Judith Topolinsky will come up. This avenue could provide both you and your fiancée with the wedding experience you are looking for, since he is against going to Vegas and you want something less complicated but nice. You can also Google the Hans Fahden winery and some of the other wineries in that area to see what they offer and how they stack up against each other.

I hope this helps.

The San Francisco courthouse is stunning. If I lived on the west coast I would totally get married there.

We had a traditional wedding in VA, but it wasnt legal. So we got legally married on our Honeymoon in Vegas by Elvis in front of the Vegas sign. I hope it’s not where relationships go to die!! LOL

Can you find some place outside of Vegas (like the Red Rocks)? But stay in Vegas? I would invite a small group of close family and friends.

@renwoman:  So call it a destination wedding, invite close friends and family. If they cant make it, oh well! Either find some place in Vegas that is classy (the hotels and some wedding chapels have nice places) or go out of town like Red Rocks. Then go to a restaurant for a meal (lunch would be cheaper).

OR…go completely cheesy like we did. Dont be embarassed to be having a vegas wedding and embrace it! People love hearing our Elvis wedding story. Just wish we could have afforded a pink cadilac! 😉

I kept talking about the costs of everything ($30K) and the fact that I was doing all of the planning. I finally told him we either scale everything down and cut the guest list to immediate family, go to the JOP ourselves or Las Vegas – he caved. I think the fact that we built a new house a year ago was a factor, it’s the money pit from hell lol. We’re getting married at the Wynn Hotel, I have 2 coordinators and basically we just show up, and when I’m happy, FI is happy too.

If your FI does not want to do Vegas what about Lake Tahoe? You can get the same kind of deals as Vegas but maybe he would not bulk at Lake Tahoe.  Wink Would not hurt to try!!
