- Wedding: August 2013 - Brookfield Zoo
Hi bees!! On August 17, 2013 I married the love of my life. It was the best day ever!! We got married at the beautiful Brookfield Zoo in the Chicago suburbs. 8/17/13 was actually the 6 year anniversary of our first date, which was at the zoo, so it was very meaningful for us to get married there. Our colors were blue and green, and in an effort to incorporate our pet rabbit Lily as much as possible, there were a ton of bunny details! Also, I had two photogs (sort of) so you’ll see kind of two different styles in these pics. One of my best friends was originally going to be our photog, but I decided I wanted him to enjoy the wedding as a guest and bridal party member instead. He brought his equipment though (after okay-ing it with our official photog) and I am REALLY glad he did. He actually got a lot of shots that our photographer inexplicably missed, like the groomsmen getting ready and the zoo animals at our cocktail hour! Where our official photog did her job of getting the most of me and Darling Husband, my bridesman did a great job of getting pictures of our friends, for which I’m incredibly grateful for.
I’m going to do this in a few parts/posts, so get ready for a lot of pictures!! I’m also going to avoid any nitpicking or venting; there were definitely a few things that went wrong, but no need to get into it 😉 All in all, it was the best day ever!!
*edit* Just in time to add my photo disclaimer!! All photos by the fantabulous JordanQuinn Photography (http://jordanquinnphoto.com/) unless otherwise marked, in which case credit goes to Hummingbear Studios (http://hummingbearstudios.com)!!
Just about everyone in the wedding party was in the same hotel, which made getting ready/meeting up easy. I think Darling Husband and I were both up super early due to nerves! I spent a little time all to myself that morning, with our bunny Lily whom we’d brought to the hotel with his travel pen. I had breakfast with one of my bridesmen and my mua (his gf) before everyone else showed up. As time went by things got more and more hectic! Each of the rooms we were in were suites, but with so many people they seemed so small LoL. My other bridesmaids/men showed up, then the video people, then the photographers, and then it was time to go to the zoo!! It seemed to start off slow but then the day just flew by.
I made these door signs for my and DH’s getting ready rooms; his is a little boy bunny straightening a bow tie in a mirror LoL. The handkerchief in the pic to the right was given to me by DH’s grandma as part of a wedding tradition; I kept it in my dress’ pocket all day 🙂
This is a shot I took of all the gifts we gave our wedding party (at the rehearsal dinner the night before), including the ties, socks, emergency bags, and we also gave them each a hardcover book hollowed out (inside had a necklace/bracelet set or a utility tool and monogramed lighter). Our groomsmen and bridesmen each had screenprinted ties. John’s guys had a print of a Cadillac engine schematic, and my guys had a picture of Lily of course.
DH’s mom (along with his aunt and grandma I believe) made our bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages!! They looked AMAZING, I couldn’t believe how perfect they looked!! This is from when they brought them to us before we left for the zoo:
Lily stayed in my room but travelled in between Darling Husband and my room so we could take some pictures with him. My Maid/Matron of Honor brought him back and forth in his carrying cage. To be honest he was quite nervous due to all the people running around, but he held up alright 🙂
Here’s a shot of our bouquets. I loved them SO much!! Along with the flowers, DH’s mom also added cute little touches like pearls and silver butterflies. Also, attached to each bouquet is a little rabbit cell phone strap :3
