Oh no! There should be a way to contact Gmail to get back into the account.
Here is the help page for gmail: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=46346
I've had my gmail account hacked into but fortunately for me I wasn't locked out of my account. The hacker was attempting to get all of my contacts to click on some link (presumably a virus).
As MissAsB suggested you should go to the gmail help page for assistance. I think there is someone you can talk to you who rcan eset everything. Be sure to change your password to an alphanumerical password... before I didn't have one and regretted not doing it!
Thanks all, I have submitted the Account Recovery Form. Keeping my fingers crossed for now!!!
I heard about this scam on the radio. You are NOT the only one it has happened to. I agree with MissAsB that you need to contact Gmail, and also make sure friends and family aren't falling for the hoax!
Thanks, gemstone. I'm trying with Gmail but, obviously, i'm not the only one having this problem. It's so embarassing! i have had phone calls from two professors, chiropractic office, aunt, church, friends, DH's friend's ex-wife! seeing if I am okay. Now I'm trying to think of all the place I need to change my password...
bank
yahoo
what else??
I would make sure to change all accounts that have the same password/login combo. I had someone hack my ebay and buy 2 iphones in Germany and it made me have to change a ton of passwords.
Ha, seems like you had the same idea. Any mortgage accounts? Insurance company? Retirement accounts?
MissAsB- thankfully, all the really "important" accounts are in my husband's name (mortgage, insurance, etc).
Gosh this is annoying. I feel like someone robbed my house!!
Change your passwords, ladies!
Good call on banks, etc. Any health information online? (I have prescriptions set up through cvs.com, for example).
Yeah, this reminds me that I really need to think of 2 seperate passwords for financial/important stuff and then another one for facebook. It's just so hard to think of them!
I changed my passwords/and changed over to email with my married name but now my facebook is locked out too! When you google my name, the link to my facebook shows up but when you click on it, it says my profile doesn't exist!
Facebook has some new security settings that lock out if someone from a different area tries to log into your account. That might be what happened.
@MissAsB: when I first logged into Fbook this morning after I heard my gmail was hacked, I had to do the new photo identification security thing and it said my account had tried to be accessed from Nigeria. I changed my password and contact email.
Now he/she/it is hacked back into my fbook account and is posting things on my status asking for money. Facebook doesn't recognize any of my email addresses.
This is awful.
Wow that's crazy. I'm sure Facebook support can help you somehow.
This happened to me- I mean- I got an email from a cousin saying he was out of town and needed money. I knew it wasn't really him because I am one of the LAST people he would ever call in an emegency- and he lives in St. Louis.
I knew Facebook was not a good idea, I mean- in general- not like I am trying to preach- I just mean- yikes! It seems like that is what happened to my cousin too- I am really sorry this happened to you. What I meant about Facebook is- it just seemed like eventually people would have problems with or from it in this way or another way.
Recently, FI (who knows about computer stuff) bought some protection software and it gave us the virises it was suposed to protect us from. The bank was able to put a stop on it, because it was from an oversees company.
@cbee: Huh, I've never had any problems with Facebook and don't personally know anyone who has. I think you run a risk of people getting your information on any online site unfortunately.
Well, finally got this (sort of) straightened out. My gmail is back up and running, but EVERY ONE of my contacts in my address book is gone. My facebook is still down (fbook took it down) but it's going back up soon.
What a mess!

Looking for a little advice here... my gmail was hacked this morning and all my contacts got an email saying I was in London and needed money to get home. This is obviously not true. Someone in Nigeria also attempted to get into my facebook account. My gmail password has been changed or put on lockdown or something so I can't get in.
Has this happened to anyone and do you have any advice on what I should do???
