YOu're not the first to ask this question. :) Get a u-plunge bra (http://www.fredericks.com/U-Plunge_Bra/52973,default,pd.html) and a low-back converter (http://www.lindasonline.com/fashion-essentials-bra-back-converter-bf70025-clear.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=product%2Bsubmit&size=One+Size). Your dress is really beautiful by the way! I love lace and ribbons.
I've heard of some people using duct tape (for that super classy post wedding rip off lol) but I haven't actually tried it. Your dress is GORGEOUS though (!!!) so I wouldn't even think about trying to find another one.
Get yourself to a good bra fitter at a lingerie speciality store. Take your dress with you so they can figure out what you need. Some will even alter bras for free so they don't show. If your near the DC area try Troussau in Vienna, VA. It's a beautiful dress, I'd hate for you not to be able to wear it.
Your dress is awesome! I have heard that the sticky bras stay very well, but haven't heard much about support. My girls aren't that big, I'm a B cup, so I'm not as worried about the support as the shape and that they will stay. Have you looked at victoria's secret? They had this bra that you can wear a gazillion ways, and multiple other options. I have a similar problem, though - my dress goes as low as yours in the front and also open on the back like yours. Mine also has lace for the straps, which you can see right through, so it would be a little tacky to have straps underneath it. That leaves me with few options so I think it will be sticky cups for me.
I wonder if there is a way a seamstress could sew in some cups with straps that run underneath the dress straps, then once you have the dress on you could secure the straps? I'm sure a creative, experienced seamstress could come up with something. Keep the dress for sure!
Your dress is gorgeous and your waist is teeny! I don't want to sound pervy or anything but if you're just not wearing a bra in those pics....your boobs look great so even if you can't find a suitable bra....I say just go braless.
I totally agree with Noelle-a-Belle, you look awesome. And I agree with everyone else: keep the dress! If you live in or around NYC there are a few places, I went to Bratenders. But I bet lots of places have a professional bra fitter ... maybe ask on your local board? Also, when I got my bra fitted, I just brought a picture of myself in the dress and she was able to work from that. You can see what the basic scenario is from the pictures you posted. But above all: KEEP THE DRESS!
I think shelliduke has a great idea, sewing in the cups should give you everything you're looking for. By the way really great dress even as is!
@ noelle-a-belle: I'm pretty sure that's the model picture of the dress, not the actual poster.
@ OP: that is a tricky dress (but beautiful!). I have seen bras that dip really low for plunging necklines at the lingerie departments of macy's and nordstrom. I suggest trying one of those so you can get the support.
My girlfriend used to do pagents in high school and she used duct tape all the time for the evening gowns. Her method was to take a strip and put it on a wash cloth...sort of to get a lot of the "stickiness" off of it so when you rip it off it's not taking your skin with it. Then she would put a small strip under the breast and another strip on the side of it pushing it up...the side closest to your arm. My only concern would be seeing the tape sticking out or the color of the tape some how looking odd under your dress. Def give it a try though because who knows it could work! Btw your dress is awesome.
LOVE the dress. The stickies actually do give decent support, but I guess that depends on how big you are. :) I think they are at least worth a try, otherwise going to a specialty shop that does offer alterations will be your best bet. Good luck!
Just from a personal perspective re: duct tape. I used duct tape for senior prom and my boobs were FANTASTIC. I wear a D cup and I had tons of support all night long. Getting the tape off wasn't that bad either, I took a hot shower and it kind of "melted" the adhesive so the tape slid off. No big deal.
NU BRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST invention ever. Looks totally natural (except better).
harrumph, i checked out the nu-bra site, and the largest size isn't even actually a D, it's a "C cup with extender" (?).
anyone have any further input on this duct tape thing? it doesn't sound very ... romantic
i have a NU-Bra as well and love it for shirts with no back. It provides enough support for me, is comfortable and looks great
I don't have a solution, but just had to comment on how stunning that dress is! Love it! :)
If you go with a bra with straps, try sweing little loops on the inside of the dress where the strap should be. You can do it with a tiny snap or if you have detachable straps you can just thread them through. I wish I knew the exact term for this. I bought a dress with them at the top of the shoulder straps to keep bra straps from moving and peeking out. They worked so well that I've sewn loops into several dresses since then so I can wear a normal bra without worrying about the straps showing.
Also a note on the duct tape - they sell it in white!
Everyone has already given you all the advice I would have though of, I'm sure - don't waste your time on dress tape, go right to the duct tape - it'll hold better. And don't forget the sticky nipple covers - they are most important.
Of course, it would make sense if you don't feel entirely comfortable with the duct tape idea - I would suggest then a lingerie shop .. and I don't just mean your local Vicoria's Secret - that place can be great - but you're going to get the best fit at a specialty shop that can take the time to find exactly what you need.
Also - your dress is gorgeous!
@MissMerlot and @sf carrie: Jim Hjelm is the designer.
@Noelle-a-belle: Yes, that's a model picture.
@CorgiTales: The low back bra strap is one of the things I've tried, and it's just really hard to get it to go low enough for the dress.
By the way...
The dress shop said I should purchase a longline bra because sewn in cups didn't work.
The bra shop said I should have cups sewn in because I haven't found a bra.
My (overbearing) mother is blaming me for this, of course.
Just an FYI I have done the duct tape before myself, and yes it does work, but you wont want to do it for your wedding. I can tend to leave a sweaty/sticky residue...not romantic at all. It might sound kinda weird, but find a "stripper" store in your area, and they usually have breast tape, it does the same thing and comes in white so will look much nicer incase people get a glimps of you when your dessing or undressing.
Why don't the sewn-in cups work?? I have big boobs that need LOTS of help (I'm a 36D and 33 and have gained and lost weight enough times that my boobs don't know how to stay up by themselves!), and the sewn in cups worked GREAT. Could your seamstress try again?
I had a pretty good experience with boob tape before, but I'm not super well-endowed.
First, your dress is awesome.
Second, mine has a similar plungeline...I am an A cup, so not as much of a concern, but they are putting in cups to the dress for me and some stretch elasitc stuff on straps.
BEAUTIFUL dress! I've had a lot of success with the Nu-bra type stickies - just make sure to lean over to bring the girls together and up before you attach them. I've used duct tape before too, but have an adhesive allergy, so the results were less than (how did one fellow hive member put it?) romantic... Good luck - you'll be a stunner!
When I find a dress with a neckline like this I always have it altered ... so maybe see what an alteration person thinks?
I am personally a huge fan of the stickes. They make my little ladies look lovely too!
@baffled111: The sewn in cups provided almost NO support and made my chest look...well...odd. My seamstress actually had recommended NOT to use them but I wanted to give them a try.
Today a friend sent me a link to this bra:

...but it's hard to tell if it goes low enough. At best it would be cutting it REALLY close. I'm thinking about ordering it though.
The great bra hunt continues... lol

Does anyone have tips, advice, etc. about taping the breasts for "support"?
I have a tricky dress, and I haven't been able to find a suitable bra. Sewn in breast cups looked bad and provided no support, so I had them taken out.
I know there are those sticky bras, but everything I've heard suggests that they provide minimal support.
I have tried four different bras with it, but they all show. I don't know what else to do other than to get another dress. Yes, I should have thought about this issue more before choosing the dress. Too soon old, too late smart.
TIA
