Hi Hive!  So this evening I tried my hand at some embossing.  Mr. Dizzy and I decided we loved the embossed look, and that we wanted it on our STDs and invites.

Now, I'm not very crafty, but after reading all of the tips and tricks, I figured that I would be able to pull it off.  But apparently I'm doing something wrong.

After I stamp the paper and put the embossing powder on, I pour the excess off, and then I brush the little dots off.  But when I go to heat the powder up, it spreads out creating weird shapes!  I can't for the life of me figure it out!

I'm attaching two pictures, one yellow ink on brown paper, and the other brown ink on yellow paper.  I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong and why this keeps happening.

    Happy crafting!

p.s. these are just the preliminaries.  I didn't want to take any chances with the actual STDs

It sounds like it's perhaps not setting or it has static on it?  Like the dryer is blowing the glittery stuff off. check these videos

Try wiping the paper with a used fabric softerner sheet before stamping. That can help with static.

yeah i agree that it could be static. they also sell a special tool to get it off, but if you have a dryer sheet that works too... the second video that i posted is better than the first.

I had a similar issue when I did my STDs -- I was getting too much ink on the stamp.  Try not dipping it in ink every time :)

Are you using am embossing heating tool? You shouldn't use a hair dryer..it spreads the powder. If you don't have an embossing tool you *can* use a toaster but it takes a long time and be careful!! :)

Also, use less ink like @dallas said above...and I LOVE the idea of using the fabric sheets, totally true and so so easy!

    Good luck :)

Haha, I actually figured it out!  I was using "thick enamel" instead of the super fine stuff.  We got an embossing buddy, new embossing powder, and voila!  Works beautifully :)

Without you ladies, I never would have figured it out!

Oh ma gah. I'm glad you figured out your embosing, because when we did ours it was a huge PITA. From now on I'll alway remember, white powder, colored ink. sigh.

dorsay, it took me sooo long and so many trials to figure it out.  I almost threw the stuff away I was so angry!  And then I found that fantastic, fine, opaque powder...and omg, it's beautiful!

I'm sorry that yours didn't come out :(
